The Grand Canyon of Oman
This was last month on one of our weekends trips up to the Mountains. This place is called Jebel Shams and is considered to be the Grand Canyon of Arabia. These mountain ranges spread out to more than a kilometer. There is not much of life happening in this place but yet its raw beauty will captivate you. It's also one of the highest peaks of Oman. Standing up here you can see some of the wadis below, its height is around 10000 feet, which is quite high. The temperature year all the year round is low, and winters are freezing, it can get in to minus also.
The good time to visit this place is in summer, because during that time the temperature in the city is between 45 and 50 degrees, whereas up here it will be between 10 and 15 during day time and night time less. For me the bearable temperature is between 15 and 20, and when it goes below that I get very uncomfortable. Though in the last few years I have worked on my body to resist cold.
That's the fabulous view of the Mountain range
You need to be careful walking here, there are many gaps and it can get dangerous.
I enjoy being on the edge. Hubby is scared when I was going up here, but I assessed it well and could figure out that it was a safe spot.
Some of the area has a protection but that's a small area, else it's all open
During night time, when I look up in to the sky I feel that I am more closer to the sky then Earth. Star gazing can be done so beautifully here, sky is clear with bright shining stars. It's a wonderful experience and adventure spending an overnight in this place.
