One year to EBC

in #adventure10 days ago

It's already 1 year to this most memorable experience of my life. The memories are so fresh that it feels like just yesterday. I am thinking of all those moments during the 10 days trek to EBC and smiling to myself for this accomplishment. I cannot believe that I actually did it. I was on a high during this time, I had worked on myself for months to prepare for this trek and it has been all worth it. Such experiences are a must once in a lifetime, where you can get out of your comfort zone and challenge your own limits.

To be very honest, I have never been a very sporty person or not much in to adventures also, but yes what I love most is to explore and I wanted to explore this region and the best way to do was to trek it up. It was on my mind for many years but, I was scared, if I would be able to do it or not. Last year I turned 50 and that was the time it hit me hard that time is moving fast and if I am not able to do this now then may be I will never be able to do it. And I decided, come may whatever I will do the trek in the year.

The first few days were easy and joyful, but as I kept moving up it started getting on me, the weather and the altitude. Physically I was perfect all through out, my biggest challenge was to fight the cold. I cannot bear temperature below 15 degrees and here I had to bear temperatures going up to -10 degrees with strong winds. And then there were harsh weather conditions which left me stranded for 2 days on top. Those were my biggest fears and unfortunately they came through and I had to face it. Now when I think of it, I realize that my physical capacity is much more then I realize and understand.

Sharing some pictures from the 10 day journey all the way up and reaching to the base camp at 5364 meters.

Day 2 was tough and exciting as well

On this trek for the first time I experienced walking on suspension bridges, my guide told me that lot of people cry out walking on it, especially the longer ones. It was a little scary in the beginning but then I got used to it.

Finally reaching the base camp. Oh, what a feeling, never felt this satisfied in life. It was like landing on the moon for me. All the hardships of the trek in this moment are instant dissolved. I knew I had to be here some day and that day was there for me. Some thing that was on my mind for so long is now in real, I am standing there myself. I was transporting between realms in this moment, I was feeling so unreal of the whole experience and yet it was so real happening to me. In that moment I was thinking, this is going to be the moment that will stay in my heart very strong till the time I die. Knowing my own capabilities, I knew this is one of the biggest achievement of my life.

I had not bathed for 5 days, not slept well, not eaten well, I was feeling like a zombie, but in this moment it felt like all the energy was back and nothing mattered more then this.

And I am going to tell this story to my grand and great grand children.

I would like to ask, have you ever walked in the lower Himalayas? I have done walking on the temporary bridges over the fast flowing mountain rivers. By the way the way you're walking with the help of two sticks is called "Nordic walking" in Australia and I have been doing it on weekends. Nice trip, nice family images at the top in Nepal.

No, I have never done that and that's the reason this was a very unique experience for me. It was a solo trek that I did.
