RE: Witty on Adsactly + Witnessy Stuffs
Hello my witness!
We all know those stats about how much energy Bitcoin uses. Do you have any stats about how much the steem blockchain requires?

If you were in Venezuela, it would cost you about 600 USD to mine one BTC. The global average to mine a single BTC is around 5k. Compare that to a witness server that can possibly earn 1 Steem every 63 seconds averaging out to literally pennies if you are in the top 20. The energy consumption is by far, much less, if I had to ballpark it? Bitcoin mining probably uses 10,000 (at minimum) times more energy than being a witness for the Steem Chain.
It's good math, but are there any solid numbers on it? After all, there are people trying to move up the witness ranks that also have to be running and using energy. Is it known how many there are and how much energy they all together use? My father's reason for not getting on Steemit is that he knows about how much energy is getting used to run most blockchains, and doesn't want to contribute to global warming. Does running steemit require more energy than it would if it were a more traditional platform, like Facebook?

I would think based on the userbase, it uses a lot less than Facebook but don't quote me on it. Someone that might know more specific data is @drakos. I know he is often checking stats and doing comparative research but I will see what I can find for more exact numbers😎
Thank you! And I'm sure it uses less than fb, but on a per user basis?
