Grand Canyon! Here We Come! Actifit 10 14 2019steemCreated with Sketch.

in #actifit5 years ago (edited)

What a privilege to spend 4 days in the Grand Canyon this year! My very first visit was in March during our Steemfriends trip with @improv, @stinawog, and @loch. Snow was on the ground and it was rather cold. But so very impressive!

A very different Grand Canyon greeted me and my Steem friend @dreemsteem in June. We got to see the evening light over the reds of the Canyon walls. And a different picture again the next day. It was hot and very sunny.

Today, fall was around us. The smell of dry pine forest and the turning of the leaves 🍁 left no doubt. It was still a little cold when we first arrived, but very quickly, the temperature was as close to perfect as it can be.

The Canyon is overwhelmingly beautiful. But part of the fun of going there is people watching. So many languages are spoken and so many expressions of fashion as well.

And then there are those who need to step over the barriers and go as close to the sheer drop down as possible, take a selfie - preferable standing on one leg. Those I don't like to watch and walk away fast because I don't want to witness an accident. It does happen every year and I feel bad for the people who have to go and rescue them.

Here is a selfie of me done far from the edge LOL. And, I can't believe that I forgot to put my lipstick on all day long. Apparently, my brain does not function well without lipstick. That is the only explanation I have that I forgot to fill up with gas after leaving the Grand Canyon and had the empty light come on in the middle of the Navajo Reservation. We were lucky that there was a gas station close by - only maybe 8 miles away. That is not always the case. The next one in the direction we were going was almost 50 mi. don't think we would have made it with the empty light on...

Three time this year!!!

I am going back mid March 2020 for the first time since 2000! Your post today upped my excitement for the trip!

I am looking forward to see the post from your visit. It really is a most amazing place!!

I'm so jelly lol ❤ Have a great day! My bff in Canada is that way about lipstick, too. I have a lot of shades and simply seldom wear it.

My face looks more alive with lipstick. I use burts bee which is also good for my lips. And it has become a habit. I am sure you will go soon to the Grand Canyon. they have all kinds of little airports around here and you and Jeff can fly :)

I need to take my husband to see the Grand Canyon! He’s never seen it. That last time I went I was about 12 years old! Many years ago now! Glad that you have enough sense to stay away from the edge!

You will see it with very different eyes when you take your husband. It took me a long time to see it to - I have lived in the States for almost 40 years now and finally made it there this year 😀

How exciting! The Grand Canyon is amazing. We took a trip there with the kids when they were young and it was wonderful. Glad you found some gas! The gas stations can be few and far between out there. (And I think better with lipstick on too. 😁)

hahaha - we have the magical lipstick LOL
I was very glad that we found some too. I already saw me walking for a long time... Actually, I would have called my husband to come with a gas can. We were about an hour from where he is working in Arizona :)

Very lovely indeed! ^_^ Hope you had lots of fun!

Absolutely stunning! I like the Southwest as I resided in Colorado for about 8 years. I never made it to the Grand Canyon. I can't wait to see more of your pictures! Good job at getting your 10235 @actifit steps in too! Enjoy your trip😎

Thank you so much!! I hope for you that some day, you will get to go. It really is beautiful there,

🍂🌲Autumn leaves and the scent of pines while viewing the Grand Canyon. Life is good @mariannewest and I think this is the best time of year to visit. Have you braved the glass Grand Canyon Skywalk yet? I didn't realize cameras and cellphones are not allowed.

I haven't been to the glass walk and I am not going to. I get very easily sick with heights. It would be pure torture for me to be on that thing! 😳 😂

First of all, I'm glad to hear you're feeling better and able to fully enjoy your vacation.💫

You and I are on the same page with regard to the glass Skywalk! That's like paying for an anxiety attack!😀😂😁 I can't begin to imagine the risks taken by the workers who spent their days building the terrifying construction!😲

Were you always afraid of heights? I was not fearful until after I had children. I wonder if there has ever been a scientific study showing a correlation of changes in a women's hormones during/after pregnancy to increased maternal instincts to survive (thereby not taking unecessary risks) to protect one's offspring. Guess it could be more simply summed up as a surge of common sense!

@mariannewest I look forward to following your travels and adventures!

Hooray for many visits to the Grand Canyon

You all got it started. And you know, I bought the pass. Have to use it LOL

haha lipstick has the opposite effect on me - I can think of nothing but my lips, that stuff annoys me. But I am so glad you found a gas station. This reminds me of a trip my sis and I made around the island of Maui. We had no idea what we were getting into, a dirt road around the perimeter of the island with no houses, forget about gas stations. We'd set off low on gas. It got dark, then very dark. The gas tank light came on and we started to worry. But we persevered! It got scary! Would we ever get back? It was a new moon and we could not see anything beyond the light of the car's headlamps. Somehow we made it back, and did a celebratory dance once we hit a gas station.
The next day we read an account of the sights we would have seen had it been light out - spectacular cliffs! Views to die for! I learned my lesson that day. I feel fear just talking about this, more than 20 years later.
Glad you're having a great trip. Keep that gas tank full!

I use Burts Bee - it is more of a lip balm with color in it :)

Your trip sounds scary!! I am very glad that you made it safely. The weird thing is that usually on trips I always fill up when I am at half full - since we never know where the next station is... Something really went wrong with my thinking that day.

*Converts miles to km* well okay you really won't make it with an empty tank, lol. If it really happened you'll then need someone to rescue you by the road...haha.

It really looks beautiful at the Grand Canyon! And you're right, sometimes the fun is at watching the people that were there. Realize that the world is big and everyone has a different backstory :)

People are very interesting to me - but I also love to watch Nature... In this case, so many people come there every year that the people scape is part of the deal until you get away a bit from the parking lots and easy access.
