Week 1: My Crypto-Currency portfolio (10 July 2017)

in #zec7 years ago (edited)

Hi All,

I am a new investor in the crypto-currency market and I am starting this weekly series as a reference point for other people to start looking at investing, as well as a reference point for me to look back on in the future and either walk away smiling or kicking myself.

Either way - this is going to be fun! I hope you enjoy my journey with me!!!

The Origins:

I started mining with a few GPUs about a month ago. ZCash was my coin of choice and within the first month (also my only month of mining so far - June) I had made around 0.075 BTC off of this one small rig running in my room. This is nothing sophisticated, just 3 graphics cards running on a open-air, Windows machine and mining on Claymore's ZCash miner.

Pretty soon I got into the idea of coin forks and alternative options. ZCash Forks were appealing to me because the amount of coins that you receive while mining is higher, therefor if you were to pick the right coin and wait for the market to ripen, you could potentially double your earnings. The algorithm stayed the same so your rig performance also wasn't affected by mining hard-forked coins. I started doing more research into Zclassic and HUSH forks.

ZClassic and HUSH accomplish basically the same thing, except the block rewards for HUSH is a bit lower than Zclassic. I decided because Zclassic didn't have any "premine" or developer tax, this would be the coin for me! I made around 35.95 ZCL in the 13 days that I mined that.

Unfortunately, as my ZCL supply started to get higher and higher, the price dropped an astonishing amount. I sat by for days on end seeing the price plummet every time I refresh my browser! It was ridiculous!!!

Eventually I decided that instead of trying to cash-in my monthly mining rewards, I would keep the ZCL I have already mined as a long term investment and that I would move into mining HUSH permanently form now on. This choice was made around 6 days ago. Since then I have reaped around 9.95 HUSH coins and things are looking good. HUSH has shown that it can sit stable at around 10% of it originators worth, AKA ZCash.

But enough about all that nonsense...

What I have invested in:

I took the time to put together some pie-charts to show what I have invested in, which coin makes up what percentage of my total investment in crypto-currencies, as well as the price of all the currencies I have invested on the day of curation.

I hope these make for some interesting reads!

Why I have invested in these coins:

1) BURST
I have been keeping a close eye on Burst the last couple of months. I was introduced to it before I started mining ZCash, but building a hard-drive rig didn't seem as cool and satisfying as building rig that has graphics cards running in it. I guess you could say this coin appealed to my interest, but not the 12 year old boy in me.

In this past week, Burst dropped below 500 Satoshis and I decided to scoop some up! I believe I have around 1000 Burst in my wallet at this stage, so it accounts for most of the volume of crypto I own, but not really for the biggest financial investment.

2) DOGECoin
Honestly, I was tired of having logical things in my portfolio so I decided to through some money around for the fun of it. I invested a whole 975 Satoshis (in total) into this coin, just because I could. In total I own around 10.7 DOGE and I have no trouble keeping this for many years to come. Even if I make a couple of cents off of this investment, it would have been worth it!

3) HUSH
As previously mentioned, HUSH is my main source of monthly income from this little pet mining/investing project I have started. This is the coin that I would most likely mine on a daily basis and I would cash out to Bitcoin on a daily/weekly/monthly basis depending on what the prices are sitting at.

4) ZClassic/ZCL
Previously I mentioned why I don't mine this coin anymore. I lost about 40-45% of the value of these coins as I started to accumulate them. These will be held onto in the long term in case the other Equihash rebrands die out and this one takes over.

5) BitShares/BTS
This investment was made today. I have been researching BitShares for quite some time now, and today I saw that the volume on the exchanges are lowering as the coin reaches record lows for the last month's trading statistics. As soon as I saw this, I sent some of my BTC to my favorite exchange, scooped up some BitShares and I'm holding on to this in the short-medium term depending on what the other investors and developers say. This was a spur of the moment, gut-feeling type thing, so I am not too phased if it doesn't work out.

** In Conclusion**

This is a very exciting new venture for me and I hope to make everything a huge success! I am so glad I was introduced to this platform to share my findings and develop my writing skills!

Thanks to all for reading! I would appreciate you up-voting this post if you found it interesting or remotely amusing!
