Primary Taste modes, but what are “modes”?

A mode is a category of sensation detected by a sensory receptor.

The Primary Modes are the

Sweet - detects sugars

Sour - detects acid

Bitter - detects alkaline
solutions

Salty - detects sodium ions

Metallic - detects metal ions

Umami (savory) - detects

glutamate (an amino acid)
