Testing Short Posts with Zappl!

in #zappl7 years ago

After months of doing one post a day, starting today I am using @zappl at https://zappl.com/@jerrybanfield to write several 240 character or less posts a day including a picture and/or a YouTube video. What do you prefer reading?

Sort:

I personally prefer short format with a key exception. The message must actually get across. I don't want to read 2 pages of ramblings if the core idea can be shared in 240 characters. That being said not all ideas can be shared so briefly so at times I appreciate a more traditional Steemit post.

I will use Zappl more once they do some updates to the Android experience. If I'm wanting to share a short message it's usually because I'm on a mobile device. The current app experience won't allow me to even share much less add a picture to the post. Once that's adjusted I'll be 100% in!

Patrick thank you for letting me know you prefer the short format because it seems a lot of us do and this is one of the only formats I have not tested prior to this in eight months on Steem!

cool Jerry - I've yet to explore zappl - thanks for the highlight

Well we look forward to seeing more content from you @jerrybanfield

Very good application @zappl best👍

Hi @zappl, how does your system work? and why not install helper services in your work? is not that a good idea

Nice post

Jerry you are loaded with info, so it will be definitely welcome and better for all steemians.
Some information require steemit.
Keep on steemin’

Jerrybanfield number one is the best

My posts are typically shorter than longer, and I would say it depends on the subject your are writing about.

Long opinionated posts deserve to be as long as they want. The writer needs to have freedom to explain their whole point of view, and allow the reader to get the whole story.

On the other hand, posting a pic and a short explanation about it warrants a few paragraphs. No need for a long drawn out post. Same goes for posts with videos. The video will tell the story.

I think both approaches can be successful if the content is well written.

Good luck with your strategy, and thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I would also love to use Zappl, but as long as there is no way to filter the short messages from my Steemit blog yet and I don´t want to make a second account just to share casual short messages, I´ll have to wait!

Steemit does need to add this, With the rise of D.tube, D.sound, https://dmania.lol/, and zapple , we need some type of filter. Wish their was a way to contact them :(

Filters that we could select or set up would be great. They should also get rid of the useless promoted tab/process and just have them incorporated into the regular stream. Then the promoted tab could be for our custom filter.

Zappl is slow-working kind of twitter? Not bad idea.

I honestly don't like it it does not belong here on steemit or at least should not be in the main feed. It really degrades the quality here on steemit. I tested it out last night and decided I wont be using it till something changes.

Hi, @jerrybanfield

What is your opinion on posting at zapp1?

It was made to look like Twitter so...
It a trade off, I like it but understand it may look like spam to others. But zappl is a great idea

Sean so far that is what I had thought too until I considered how many comments on my posts ask for them to be shorter, how much the comments contribute to the SEO, and how many images might rank in Google search based on the images. Additionally all of my posts get shared to Facebook and Twitter meaning doing more every day helps me bring more people to Steem. I would prefer a filter option as well and I believe future versions will make it easier to separate types of posts.

ah that is a good point I didn't think about a simple post having massive amounts of comments and within those comments is where the value would be instead. For sure makes you look at it a bit differently. Works in progress I am sure it will continue to advance thanks for the feedback and new prospective.

It would be better though if @zappl will restrict the appearance of their contents within the Zappl platform only--the same thing can be said to @dmania. But I guess this is the job of @steemit, not the other way around.

I would like to see a way to filter out certain apps as well.
I think that Zappl post should remain in the zappl realm. The shorter post have a place in the STEEM blockchain but I think that steemit should offer a filter where you can disable certain categories frombeing a part of the main feed. I do use zappl about 2 times a week but find the brevity of the post unbecoming of a steemit blog post for the most part. Filters would make this 100% appealing. We have NSFW filter so we know it can be done. Perhaps this may something we find in Hardfork 20.

Hi @jerrybanfield some saying that zappl is picking keys without permissions. Like today zappl declaration to MIT means not a fully open source but somehow partial.
And i think some people are getting afraid using because of how keys have being collected.
I think you can look into this for the full security of steemians , also zappl should make a post on this in other to eliminate fears.

Zappl does not collect keys in any way. The source is visible to all to view and how angular works. Zappl currently processes the transactions via the server. But its not collecting keys and this can be seen in your browser. So people are clearly spreading fud. Also with any site not using steem connect it is only recommended to use posting keys.

Its cool and lovely for this reply. I think zappl if posible need to make an excellent post in other to clear any fears in steemit ecosystem. I am a zappl user also and believe in zappl thus the advise. I love zappl ideas

Bitcoin does have an Mit license so....

Yes i know, but there are fear in some community and im working on it also to understand more

Great job, also mention bitcoin has it to so they understand

Zappl is fully open source. Our own custom plugins for competitive edge are not. Zappl is still a privately owned and registered company.

Any plugins that we have there is code for on the public end how they interact with the source code. Just like wordpress its open source but not all plugins people make are public.

Cool, i think i deserve an award bringing this issue here. Many post in utopian got rejected or unvoted for this reason of some not understanding how open is zappl. I think a clear separate post is needed on this issue from zappl in other to clear all douth

The read on the github is pretty public.

Ok i get it. I wish you can have time and chat any utopian supervisors or overseers on this issue , so that contributors can contribute on zappl without fear of rejection.

This is already listed on utopian it has been for months. And users have been getting rewarded for months.

@jerrybanfield , do you not think that the rise of the zappl and dmania is kind of 'dumbing down' the ecosystem ? I just think its sad that sooner or later, our feeds maybe full of short posts and the quality content long posts that many provide for our entertainment and more importantly, education may got lost in a cacophony of dross ?
Best wishes to you :-)

A filter option must be applied in the future. We have so many platforms and projects on top of steem, we definitely need a filter.

absolutely agree mate, but I just hate seeing people posting shite, copied memes on dmania in particular and then receiving huge rewards for them, just sullies it a bit I think. Perhaps the reward pool needs adjustment also.

the only reason they are getting big rewards it's because each one of those alternative platforms has a huge delegation "from above" to upvote content and hence create traction. They are just not using it in the right way. Only @utopian-io is doing a good job on upvotes but they are working on a different level with a lot of moderators that are doing a hell of a job.

Don't worry, that can easily be remedied by applying some kind of front-end restrictions.

It can and I know I'm jumping the gun a little as everything develops, but it's more the quality and just rewards that concern me somewhat!
We will leave it in the hands of the witnesses we put out faith in!

Well, shit posting is happening every where, even on Steemit. Let's see where do these new developments lead us.

If Steem fails, EOS is just around the corner after all. Keep calm and Steem on.

ooooo controversial...but true ;-)

Nathen I have been hesistant to even test @zappl or any shorter posting strategy because of this too. The more I think about it, I see many benefits to the Steem blockchain on shorter posts.

Ok, cheers. I will look forward to a future post when you outline these benefits !! thanks for taking the time to respond mate :-)

I would love to read those benefits
