Review: LIfeline on YouTube Red

YouTube has released a new series on their subscription service YouTube Red called Lifeline. The series didn't get a lot of promotion and I honestly only found out about it because I was looking for something else.

The series was officially released on March 23, 2018, and in all has 8 episodes.

Conner Hooks is the top agent at a mysterious company that offers the ultimate in life “insurance”—if a client faces death, an agent jumps forward in time 33 days to save them. But Conner’s world and career are turned upside-down when he receives a mysterious call challenging him save the one life he cares about most… his wife’s.

It's given a rating of "TVMA" which quite honestly surprised me. It wasn't all that bad. I'm not sure why they would give it that. I wouldn't have thought it more than PG-13. TV-MA is a program that is specifically designed to be viewed by adults and therefore may be unsuitable for children under 17.

Lifeline is basically a sci-fi show where a company has a time machine of sorts, that they for the super-rich who buy these life insurance policies. If you die, they go back in time up to 33 days to stop it from happening.

Conner Hooks played by Zach Gilford is a time agent. Zach Gilford is probably best known for his role as Matt Saracen on Friday Night Lights (2006 - 2011). Since then he hasn't really done much - a few TV series here and there, but nothing major big. Well, he was also Shane in The Purge: Anarchy.

Anywho, as a time agent, he leaps forward in time 33 days. So he never really ages. Because of his leaps, he can live out 10 years in a matter of months. That makes it hard to have any sort of real life because you are always jumping forward in time. Still, he was able to find happiness with a wife who herself was a time agent, but she dies and that's really what the series is about, his pursuit to try and save her life.

I wouldn't go as far to say it was a great show, but it wasn't bad. It was interesting, enough so that I binge watched all 8 episodes. But Lifeline isn't the best thing YouTube Red has to offer.

If you are looking for some fantasy on YouTube Red, I would watch The Thinning instead.
