WWE boss Vince McMahon is reportedly considering bringing back a version of his failed professional gridiron league, the XFL.
After an initial report from a right-wing US blogger that the league would be announced as returning in 2018, WWE made a statement - first reported by David Bixenspan - which surprisingly did not deny the claim, leading credence to the news.
“Vince McMahon has established and is personally funding a separate entity from WWE, Alpha Entertainment, to explore investment opportunities across the sports and entertainment landscapes, including professional football,” the statement read.
“Mr. McMahon has nothing further to announce at this time.”
That the news initially emerged from a political source suggests that the league could be linked to US president Donald Trump, who has spent plenty of time oddly criticising the NFL, for players kneeling as well as its attempts to make the game safer.
