The NordVPN Test | Full Review and Speed Test
As I said it yesterday, I will show you the 3 best VPN that I recommend. And the first one is NordVPN:
Speed test: 74 Mbps on 100 Mbps
Historical Storage: no personal data collected
Netflix: yes
Torrents: yes
Cost: $ 2.75/month

NordVPN is a very popular VPN supplier claiming to be the most advanced VPN in the world.
But I have already seen these statements. So I decided to buy it to estimate its performances.
1. Situated in Panama
According to their Web site, NordVPN was launched in 2008 in Panama, and is exploited by Tefincom co Inc. For some, it can raise some questions.
However, it’s a common practice. The best VPN is all situated in independent countries that do not share the confidential information (Switzerland, Singapore, Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, etc.).
NordVPN hides this information well enough, which is good for their users.
2. No information collected
While some VPN providers keep your information, NordVPN does not.
However, they are monitoring some less important data, such as:
Service performance data (to recommend the most appropriate servers)
Email-address
Payment data (but you can also use bitcoins)
This is a normal process that most (if not all) VPN providers use, so you can rest easy as the NordVPN payment process is not tied to their main company.
3. Good choice for downloading through torrent and Netflix
Well for the torrent and p2p, NordVPN easily adapts and bypasses geographical restrictions on some sites like Netflix.
When I tested NordVPN with Netflix, it seemed to work normally.
I have to admit that not all servers work with Netflix, because we all know how Netflix tries to crack some IPs that belong to VPNs.
But 4 out of 5 should work. Here are the results of my Netflix tests:
NordVPN servers that everytime unblock Netflix (for now):
United States
UK
Netherlands
For streaming you can always contact their customer service, so that they show you to the most suitable servers.
In addition, the download is secure and fast.
NordVPN has created special "P2P servers" which are only intended to ensure the security and confidentiality of your torrents activities. You can access P2P servers through the list of specialized servers on their application.
4. Important Features
The benefits and functions are excellent, although they are relatively cheap.
OpenVPN protocol (and others)
OpenVPN uses 256-AES-CBC with a 2048-bit Diffie-Hellman key. On iOS and MacOS clients, you will be encrypted through an IKEv2 / IPsec protocol; AES-256-GCM and a 3072 bit DH key.
Thus, NordVPN has made every effort to ensure security, and has used encryption algorithms higher than the standards of the VPN sector.
Double Data protection
If you choose to enable this feature, NordVPN's double encryption will relay your data through not one, but two subsequent VPN servers, before they reach the web page or application you are trying to access. Chaining your connection through two VPN servers, your data is encrypted twice.
In addition to the double encryption (often unnecessary), the second VPN server will not know your original IP address and connections are always through the UDP and TCP protocols. This is a security feature, "an extra step". The clear majority of you wouldn’t need it, especially if you only use it for downloading and unlocking Netflix.
Not to mention the drastic reduction in speeds you will incur.
5. The speed of NordVPN has improved a lot
And now, the long-awaited moment of any self-respecting VPN exam, speed tests.
When I did this speed test in early 2018, I was happy to see their speed among the best.
To evaluate the effectiveness of NordVPN in securing your traffic, I did dozens of speed tests
For this speed test, I used a 100 Mbps wired internet connection with the following benchmark (without VPN):
And while the best VPNs managed to reach download speeds of 70 Mbps and more, NordVPN reached 74.15 Mbps.
(Remember that I’m actually in Europe!)
US server
- Ping: 101ms
- Inbound upload: 56 Mbps
- Outgoing download: 29 Mbps
On average, good enough for a 6000 km trip
Europe Server
- Ping: 37ms
- Inbound download: 74 Mbps
- Outgoing download: 48 Mbps
Decent speeds for the EU too.
Asia server:
- Ping: 211ms
- Inbound upload: 12 Mbps
- Outgoing download: 5 Mbps
Not bad for a connection between Europe and Asia!
Do I recommend NordVPN?
Eyes closed! I recommend NordVPN
In conclusion, it's secure, safe and fast. Moreover, its presence on the market is less old than other VPNs such as TorGuard or AirVPN.
In addition, their server farm is the largest I know, about 3350 servers in more than 60 countries.
It does the job very well, however it is not as fast as ExpressVPN.
So, I recommend NordVPN for limited budgets!
