How can I set off a writing career without any literary training?
Stay interested and excited about learning something new. Enjoy the process of learning to write. That will give you fuel and motivation to keep going through failure and discouragement. It is never too late to start something new in your life. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
You are the school that is going to get you the training and education you seek. Leverage the internet, there’re so many videos, articles and books for you to learn from. Much of this content is free, You Tube is a great source for videos on learning how to write.
Think on what type of writing you want to do. There’re many options, fiction, non fiction, screen writing, article writing, blogging and more. At the same time though when you first start to learn pay attention to the different types of writing and learn them.
Write a lot, all the time don’t just practice, employ purposeful practice. Which includes well defined goals, specific goals, stay focused, involves feedback, it requires you to get out of your comfort zone. Purposeful practice is superior to “naive practice” which simply uses repetition in hopes of improving performance.
Read a lot, if you already read, read more and read books that you may not usually read in pursuit of your writing goals. Create new routines, specific times to write, create a schedule and daily plan around your training and writing.
