in #writing6 years ago (edited)

Introduction
I am gonna do several posts about bomb's history , types and evolution through time. each post will be pointing out a small thing so it wont be a long boring post and it will be easier for me in the future.my goal in the end is to make a book about it and full detailed post.

Definition
"A bomb is an explosive weapon that uses the exothermic reaction of an explosive material to provide an extremely sudden and violent release of energy. Detonations inflict damage principally through ground- and atmosphere-transmitted mechanical stress, the impact and penetration of pressure-driven projectiles, pressure damage, and explosion-generated effects."-WIKIPEDIA

#1 First signs of bombs

In this post we are gonna talk about the first bomb ever made.
The Thunder crash bomb is an early type of bomb or hand grenade developed in the 12th-13th century Song and Jin-era China. Its shell was made of cast iron and filled with gunpowder. The length of the fuse could be adjusted according to the intended throwing distance.

The history behind it

Gunpowder is the first physical explosive. Before its discovery, many incendiary and burning devices had been used, including Greek fire. The discovery of gunpowder is attributed to experimentation in Chinese alchemy by Taoists in the pursuit of immortality, and is popularly listed as one of the "Four Great Inventions" of China. It was discovered during the late Tang dynasty (9th century) but the earliest record of a written formula appeared in the Song dynasty (11th century). Knowledge of gunpowder spread rapidly throughout the Old World. It was employed in warfare to some effect from at least the 12th century in weapons such as fire arrows, bombs, and the fire lance before the appearance of the gun.and that's how they could invent "thunder-crash bomb"

Ahead of its time

"there was a great explosion, the noise whereof was like thunder, audible for more than thirty miles, and the vegetation was scorched and blasted by the heat over an area of more than half a mǔ (307.2 m2). When hit, even iron Armour was quite pierced through." The Song Dynasty (960–1279) official Li Zengbo
these bombs were no joke,The Mongol invasions (against Song dynasty) are considered a precursor to early modern warfare. One of the most notable technological innovations during the war was the use of explosive, hand-thrown bombs. The invasions are referred to in many works of fiction, and are the earliest events for which the word kamikaze was used.

That's all for today folks
