Keep The Night At Bay
Echo & The Bunnymen’s Never Stop was playing on the radio when Daniel felt the buzz on the side of his bondage belt.
Is that the only thing you care about,
Splitting up the money
And share it out
Oh good god, not him he thought before he said, “Hey, I got to go to a payphone. Can you head over to Frank’s Liquor?”
Rosie who was driving an old black honda held together with duck tape and bubble gum, replied “What the fuck Dan? We got a shit ton of booze. I want to make it before X is on, they’re opening tonight.”
Daniel visibly nervous says, “I know, I know, but Paco just paged me. I got to call him!”
“Fuck the connect? Shit ok,” she swerves to the left lane, to make a u-turn. Rosie is a petite goth-punk Latina, the only thing she loves more than pitting at gigs, is mota.
The black gutter punk honda pulls into the parking lot of Frank’s Liquor. Normally two punk kids using a payphone at a liquor store would get noticed. But Frank’s is the spot for the down and out of East Los, the neon Liquor sign flickers like Mosquito light, sucking in all the bums off the streets.
“Hey, do you have a quarter?” Daniel turns to Rosie with his hand out, as he picks up the phone.
“Fucking Dan, get your shit together.” She says as she digs out a quarter from her tight black pants. “This should at least get me greens, all night”
“Que Paso, Paco” Daniel is shifting his body as he listens to the inaudible noise coming from the other side of the payphone. He looks down at his beeper, clearing out numbers. Then clips it back on to his belt.
Rosie watches Daniel, and she just knows the night is lost and another show forgotten. She heads back into the car, grabs a 40oz of King Cobra and twists off the cap, and holds the bottle with both hands as she gulps down ⅓ of the malt liquor. She turns up the volume on the radio getting ready for the mission that they are gonna need to bust to keep the night at bay.
Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh, oh
Never stop Never stop
Never stop Never stop
Never stop Never stop
Never stop Never stop Never stop...
