To combat cyber crime Bangladesh has enacted Information Communication & Technology Act, 2006. Cyber Crime

Cyber crime is a technological crime. It is also known as computer crime, electronic crime, hi-tech crime and e-crime. Actually it involves a broad range of potentially illegal activities conducted by the misuse of computers and different types of communication networks.
Dr. Debarati Halder and Dr. K. Jaishankar (cited in Alam p.213) define Cybercrimes as: "Offences that are committed against individuals or groups of individuals with a criminal motive to intentionally harm the reputation of the victim or cause physical or mental harm to the victim directly or indirectly, using modern telecommunication networks such as Internet (Chat rooms, emails, notice boards and groups) and mobile phones (SMS/MMS)".
The Oxford English Dictionary (cited in Alam p. 213) defines cybercrime as crime or a crime committed using computer or internet. Although the term cyber is technically limited to crimes involving the internet, it is used more broadly to refer the crimes committed using stand-alone computers.

There are four types of cyber crimes:

  1. Computer as the target of a crime
  2. Computer as a tool of the crime
  3. Computer as incidental to crime
  4. Crime associated with the prevalence of computers
