Write Content With Your Audience in Mind and Succeed

Many freelancers will find if you write articles without your ego, the business flows smoother. Content produced as a ghost writer or with a byline, can inflate egos. To be a successful freelance writer requires a certain degree of feeling self-important.

The key to a thriving business is knowing when to set these feelings aside.

Use Ego for Sales Pitches

One element for securing work in the world of writing is to send out queries and fill out applications. You secure jobs to write articles to feed your family and to pay your bills. It is important to sell yourself, your skills and your work to potential clients. Having an ego is beneficial to the legwork of finding future clients.

Use Ego to Stay Motivated

Without some sense of self-importance, it would be virtually impossible to stay motivated in such an emotionally-demanding and time-consuming career. Pouring part of ourselves into content is part of what makes our writing voice.

Writers spend large portions of time researching topics, learning writing techniques to writer faster and refreshing grammar skills. All of this requires motivation that is often driven by a slightly boosted ego.

Write Articles Focusing on Useful Information

Set aside the ego when using your professional skills as a writer. Focus your attention on providing useful information for your clients. You will find you can write articles in less time with a direct focal point. The client is the boss and has specific needs.

You will see an increase in rejections and edit requests if you write with your ego sitting at the keyboard with you. Most often the client is not concerned about your input on how to style a particular project or producing a particular angle. The client's primary concern is your skills and ability to produce what he views as top-quality content.

Write Articles for Your Audience

You may object because you write for a residual income from ad revenue sharing or affiliate marketing. Perhaps, you write for a blog? Your client is your audience. Many residual income websites have specific guideline requirements to follow.

You are not going to change these guidelines by writing the website owner or CEO to inform them that your writing style is only in the passive voice or first-person narrative.

Even if you write strictly for page views, there is an audience. Learning about your audience is the most effective way for obtaining subscribers and for building a relationship. Write articles that fulfill a need specific to your audience.

End the Day Feeling Well

You can meet the needs of your audience or client and feel well. Make your ego sit in the sidelines or even take nap before you write articles for the best success.
