Persephone felt nothing that could be described as anything other than pure rage. Her face grew intensively hot, almost as if it would melt from the outside in. Her entire body vibrated with a fiery anger from this sudden betrayal. “Malory, why are you doing this? What have I ever done to you to deserve this? What the hell is going on? Please Mal… Please” when Persephone spoke her usual soft and tender voice sounded like a strangers, broken and strained. Malory untied her bound hands and stood over her before she spoke. Staring at Persephone in the oddest way “Persse, shut up and eat. You’re going to need every ounce of strength you can get.” Her voice rang out in Persephone’s ears. No such hint of concern or remorse as she had held earlier.
Suddenly Persephone went cold as ice as her anger was once again replaced by crippling fear. Tears began to well up in her eyes as she slowly picked up her bread. She forced a bite and chewed. Malory and the hooded strangers continued to observe her while she ate, making sure shed eat every last bite. She felt nothing but pain in her throat with every swallow, her throat had become tired of fighting back the tears or anger and fear. Persephone felt defeated as she polished off her final bite. When she finished Malory took the now empty plate and walked towards the large metal door. “Get some rest Persse. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day.”
Something about the way Malory had said this left Persse’s head spinning. She sounded so cold. Giving Persephone the impression that whatever events awaited her the next day would surly be horrendous. Malory then walked out the door with the three hooded strangers leaving Persephone to the loud creek of the large metal door and the multitudes of complicated locks, and then complete silence.
She erupted like a dam that had cracked wide open. All the emotions escaping from her in the form of loud hideous sobs. She broke. The uncertainty washing over her like waves of a tsunami. She tried to convince herself that this was some sort of lucid nightmare, but she knew it wasn’t. The pain she felt was real. All the throbbing of her head, the wetness from what felt like and endless river of tears, the coarseness of her burning throat, it was to real to be made into a nightmare. She wished it was though. Persephone grew weary, her eyelids felt like anchors. Her body soar from the long journey to the concrete prison that now held her captive. Naturally her body wanted to shut down, but her mind spoke a different story. Don’t fall asleep… don’t fall asleep. The fight was lost, as Persephone felt her eyes shut.
