MIDNIGHT IN KOSCO (CHAPTER FIVE)

Hey peeps, sumin jux hapun right now.... I know I've disappointed y'all for not updating for the past 5-6 days. Man had to hustle. But this buhari regime ehn... I can't come and go and poof😂 So this night I forced myself to seat in front of that pc and have some fun.

And Chapter V begins...

The bed springs gave a loud squeak as Wunmi laid the girl on it with shaky hands. The young lady was astonishingly pretty, and Wunmi had no doubt it played a part in the once in a lifetime occurrence she'd experienced minutes ago: A Crawler helping his prey? Who does that? His prey.

• Usually, beings caught by the Crawlers are taken down to the bowels of the earth except when the prey is aged. In that case, their blood is drained, their hearts gobbled up, and their bodies disposed in the streets. Early morning patrols make sure the town dwellers dont come across any dismembered corpse.

  Wunmi cast another glance at the wall clock; three in the morning, and quickly said a short prayer for Saed and his friends. He'd forgotten his lucky totem, and even though she was against his outing tonight, she couldnt help but think of the benefits. If the team was successful in getting one of the Crawlers alone, maybe those Barrett M95 silver bullets laced with arsenic trioxide would work, maybe they won't. They will, no bad thoughts. Remember.

• Saed volunteered for the mission when the Informants group had their last meeting in the basement of an expensive house in Mayfair City. He confided in Wunmi the night before that that he'd been having recurring visions about the Crawlers. And the numbers of missing persons kept rising every morning. It turned out he wasn't the only one experiencing these visions. Historians, clergymen, politicians, important men and women attended the last meeting. Wunmi and her partner had been shocked at the sight of people who dictated the city joining arms with them.

• After several debates, funds were allocated, the Informants' seers pointed accusing fingers at Kosco town. Wunmi had heard about Kosco, about how the evolution of man and Crawler came to be in the same corner before they both spread and filled the earth.

Kosco town was massive, five times the size of Mayfair City, which is the biggest in the entire colony of Nera - and still it was called a town. There where schools, hospitals, banks, hotels, different set-ups as there was in the city. Wunmi had envisioned mudhouses, untarred dusty roads, children running around in pants, women pounding yams outside their respective houses like the tales her father had told of his childhood back in Oddo, his hometown.

• Wunmi and Saed were silent throughout the entire eight hours to the towns. In as much as Wunmi'd have loved to take the trip in their Rover, she and her partner had shared a van with other volunteers from the group, whilst the kill team were in another van.

The meeting had proved productive as everyone agreed it was time to move, since the days ahead spelled doom. A team of mercenaries joined the Informants volunteers - which was minimized to five people. Their task was to handle the capturing or the killings if things go wrong. They also had a tech team; tracking micro-chips were made available to get the location of Crawlers. The defense minister boasted of getting these gadgets from a good friend of his.

• Wunmi had first balked at the idea, while Saed jumped at the chance to capture a Crawler. For him, humanity had to be protected and if it meant dying in the process, he was ready to. When they returned home, Wunmi had fought him about it, got tired, Saed apologized and they made love that night. The next morning they left for Kosco town.

Underneath Kosco was the center of the world. Numerous sightings of the Crawlers had been reported here, and there were missing persons report too. In fact, Kosco was rumoured to be the doorway to where the Crawlers made their homes. The first reported sightings came from Kosco.
