The Steemit "Choose Your Own Adventure"-Style Story (Chapter 2)

in #writing8 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone, thanks for voting!
In case you're new, long story short, it's a story written by me, but with choices decided by you! New chapters will be posted every Monday Wednesday and Friday!

We ran into a little of a dilemma in which there was a tie between the two choices, so I skipped Wednesday, and extended the voting period, during which the tie was broken. Sorry about any confusion, but I think in the future, if there is a tie, I will break it by going with whichever option was voted on first.

So here we are with the Friday chapter!

Chapter 2

You select hunter, and the screen blacks out, before brightening back up into a live feed from your phone’s camera view.

Well, it looks like a live feed from your phone’s camera, but there are structures that don’t appear in real life. There’s a little shed outside of the school, and it looks like there are even more structures off in the distance.

You run outside to better check it out. The shed is sitting in the parking lot. Look at your camera, and it’s there. But lower it, and you’re staring at an empty space in the parking lot. Out of curiosity, you decide to try walking into the building. It’s a little unsettling, looking at your phone, and seeing you’re about to walk headfirst into a wall, but logic tells you that nothing is going to happen, right?

But what is going to happen?

You pass right through the shed, as expected, but your camera still shows the outside wall of the shed until you’ve passed all the way through.

Interesting. Trying to walk through it a few more times, with the phone held in different ways, it seems that, while you can pass through, your phone’s camera acts as a physical object in the game world, colliding against in-game structures, while you (obviously) do not.

Across the street in Perkins park, you see a couple people with their phones out, waving them around in the air, and tapping on their phone screens. It looks like they’re building something, but you can't be sure from this distance. Maybe it would be worthwhile to go check it out after school?

The view of Mobius in your phone is a little wonky, as the computer generated buildings lag a bit behind the rest of the environment while you move your camera, and in-game structures can be seen through real life walls, and trees, but aside from that, the effect is pretty impressive. Did other players build this stuff?

It would be nice if there were some sort of tutorial, but the game just seems to throw you in with no explanation. It does seem pretty neat, if not terribly interactive. There must be more to it that you don’t yet know. You decide to check it out more after school, and maybe ask Matt what he knows.

            Do you choose to
  1. Head straight to Matt’s
  2. Matt can wait, you want to head to park first and see what those guys were doing
  3. Forget Matt and try to figure it out on your own.
