Sinister Thoughts

Let me ask you something, have you ever thought you were insane? Even though the majority of you may say yes, I ask of you to give a deep thought about your answer. Have you ever had truly abominable thoughts? The kind you wouldnt even share with your best friend and even less with your family. Things like carrying the baby of a family member or friend and thinking about doing something horrifying, like throwing it out the window or dropping it.

Have you ever thought how it would be to go down the street and hit someone out of nowhere? How would you be if you were a serial killer? Have you ever seen your girlfriend or boyfriend and thought, without being angry or provoked, how would it be if you suddenly took a knife and stuck it in her/his chest? How would it be if while seeing your mother in the kitchen, you grab a pot of boiling water and threw it in her face?

What would happen if you pushed a friend or family member out the window? In fact, what would happen if you murdered your own pet in a horrendous way or someone else's? Maybe you do not have to go that far. Did you ever think about making a scene in public, something incredibly shameful and detestable in front of family or friends?

Anyway, all those unspeakable things you came up with out of nowhere and without any provocation, I want you to remember them and what your thoughts about it, you have probably scared yourself a lot or you have least felt extremely uncomfortable thinking that the saddest secret of your life is that you may have couple loose screws in your head.

Perhaps you have consoled yourself thinking that you can keep it at bay, that you would not dare to do it in reality or at least that you would draw willpower to stop yourself from doing something crazy if suddenly your terrible secret gets worse over time.

If you are one of these people, if this has happened to you and I am sure there are many who will answer for themselves "Yes", then I have news for you.

It is completely normal. Those detestable thoughts impossible to tell any person no matter how much long you have been friends, those gruesome thoughts that occasionally come to you from nothing are completely normal, it's called "Intrusive Thought", and it may vary.

From imagining yourself doing something terrible to someone helpless and inocent, even to a loved one, even the most abominable thoughts that go from jumping over the balcony in front of your family to things still much worse and more sordid. It happens to many people, and as much as it costs for you to believe it, it's natural, so you're not crazy. The interesting thing is that many people throughout history have written about this, and poor of them because they did not have the counseling psychology that can be enjoyed today in modern times.

The formidable Edgar Allan Poe had a name to describe this to what he considered a curious evil, and that in his wisdom he knew that he did not suffer only himself, but other people too: "The Imp of the Perversed". He considered it an internal demon in every human being that suddenly activates and gives us a dark call to do indescribable things. Why and in what purpose? According to him, for the enjoyment of perversity, because that specific moment that crosses us between eyebrows such an abominable thought simply occurs to us because we are able to do it.

Curiously, the French have a name to describe this human phenomenon: "l'appel du vide" or -"The Call of the Void", and although it is a term that is more related to people who suddenly have suicidal thoughts, it almost becomes the same. Maybe we can also baptize this phenomenon from deep inside of us, and with the monumental relief of knowing that we are normal and we are not on the road to madness. Even if some people it is a guilty and strong feeling. For that reason perhaps you can call it in a way that at the same time is an order: "Shut the hell up brain!".

Wow this was so deep I mean deep some of those suggestions had me cringing the worst for me is murdering of animals, I don't understand nor can I comprehend people who might do or even think such things. Thank you for your post.

Thank you for taking the time to read it, there are people out there that take out their anger and bad feelings with animals sadly :-(

This is such a great read. Very valuable to anybody who has experienced thoughts like this.
I liked the little piece of history you placed in the writing too.

I've selected this as the first curated post in our #the-hook channel on BuddyUP in an effort to showcase your writing and to raise some awareness for anybody who may be suffering from intrusive thoughts.

Thanks for the engaging read!

Thanks for picking me up for the hook!(hooking me up?) I'm glad you enjoyed it too!

I gone and hooked you up!
Think you just coined the curation phrase of the week ;)

Wooo! I contributed something lol

this is splendid writing. Luna, you have taught me something today. I guess you are right in saying that these thoughts are quite common. Even if I have not had such violent thoughts (not that I can remember) but I have had pretty bad thoughts about others more than once. Good to know that this is s common occurrence.

They are pretty common but some people don't open up about them and end up getting worse! Glad you enjoyed the read!

Yes, the way you wrote about it made it more interesting

Wow, I have had such thoughts before. I thought that I might be going crazy. Scary to think if someone without the inhibition would actually carry it out though....

I'm familiar to these sort of thoughts too but even good people can get attacked by this kind of thoughts on their weakness moments and lead them to do terrible things.

I have had such thoughts, but when they played out in my head because of the anger I allowed the other to invoke in me, I felt empathy for the person and realized right away that I didn't want the other to experience such an act.

Great post and I found my way here by way of the group BuddyUp. I am upvoting your post on their behalf. Keep bringing quality posts and thank you for comforting the Steemit Commumity. I understand. I am trying to support the group and its members. So I am hoping others that see my comment check it out.

It's amazing how our mind works! We can all be sinister if one embraces it and gets swallowed by grief, anger and any dark emotions! ♥ Thanks Luna!

OMG, this is such a relief, lol... I tried to not give them too much thought as they aren't common but they shock me to the core that I could even think such a thing sometimes.

Everyone falls to their dark side once in a while...
