[isketch] Written in the Stars

in #writing6 years ago

This sketch is done using an iPad Pro using the Procreate app. I used the Sketching – HB Pencil brush which comes with the app. With this brush I used different blues to sketch & blues & yellows to shade.

This week is brought to you by the Universe and the Stars!

My week opened up with my sudden urge to open up one of my favorite books, “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho and to read whatever was on the page. I found:

“So I love you because the entire universe conspired to help me find you”.

If you haven’t read the book yet I really encourage you to do so, it’s uplifting and inspirational. I like the overarching theme of this book of when you put your mind and heart 100% towards something, even when the world around you may say you’re crazy, the universe side with you also at 100%.

The following day I got to attend a mosaic making workshop at Chicago Mosaic School. This school is the only mosaic school in America, whereas most Mosaic schools are located in Italy. (I keep getting reminded on how many hidden gems there are in Chicago!) I felt compelled to place my tiny bits of broken glass to resemble the Star Locket from Sailor Moon, just because I wanted to do something from Sailor Moon.

The instructors from Chicago Mosaic School were so fun, encouraging and helpful and mosaic masking was so much fun I would like to go again and again. Being my first time, I did not feel as if I did my Star Locket justice though. I sketched it once more at work on a post-it note and held it in my mind to sketch it once more as part of my weekly practice.

Come Friday my music world was delighted with a new John Legend release in collaboration with the K-Pop world:

John Legend & Wendy (Red Velvet) – Written In The Stars

Written in the Stars is pop ballad track about two lovers knowing they will always find each other, no matter how far one will go or across time and space. This song kind of connected my weekly dots, as the Star Locket is a representation of Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion’s love and how they found each other even in another lifetime.

To finish off my week and to give my Star Locket true justice, my sketch:

My attempt at the Chicago Mosaic School was too ambitious in detail and I would be been more successful in my glass creation if I stepped back and kept things simple. So my sketch was just to be that, simple, one brush and I just dived in not worrying about my lines.

What I learned this week is that in order for all your stars to align they need to move to first. 😉

Omgosh! We should plan to do creative stuff the next time I visit you! Your mosaic turned out great! Your drawing looks really good too! I thought you used the symmetry tool for the hands since they look almost identical but it seems like you didn’t. They look great!

Yay! Thanks! Yeah I didn't, while drawing it I thought about it but by then I was already almost done sketching the 2nd hand haha. I might have to try it eventually. And oouu when you come visit I should take you to the mosaic school!! Come soon. TwT

This is very nice, the pendant is beautiful and elegant <3 I think you keeping things simple really had resulted in a delicate elegance :)

Thank you! Yeah I love the star pendant. Wish I had one that pretty to myself!

I really really love these kind of drawings, it's just so beautiful and simple. I really like the alchemist too! It's one of the first books I read just for hobby.

Thanks! Yeah simple is best. <3
