The Mindset Of a Theif

Most people have always wondered what gives a normal human being that urge, that morale to take what belongs to someone else or everyone. Over the years, from experience I have come to realize that they are certain factors that contribute in making people do some kind of mind blowing outrageous acts that will leave one wondering if they are still any good person in this world.

Now before a person sits down and device methods of making another human being miserable by taking what does not belong to him/her, they have to be a reason, some of which are:

  • The lack of basic necessity of survival
  • Selfishness, self-centeredness, greed, insatiable desire for things
  • Stealing-spirit
  • Peer-pressure
  • Now in order for us to have a clear mental view of what am going to say below I will be citing a lot of scenarios for each reason….

  • THE LACK OF BASIC NECESSITY OF SURVIVAL

  • Now most people have resorted to stealing because they have no means of livelihood, atleast that is what they have made themselves believe. Most of the reason why a person will resort to stealing even if he/she is not handicapped is because of what I call LAZINESS…..

Yes most people are so lazy of looking for any good source of livelihood so the only option left is to take what they have not worked for. Let me give you a scenario.

…. There is a friend of mine who when I was still a fresher in the university, he had roommates that were always lazing around, all they liked doing was to be bullying people around and extorting them of the little money they had, so a day came when they were no longer satisfied with the little money there were extorting here and there, so there decided to carry out an operation in a small kiosk near our hostel… they did carry out the operation, they brought back plenty goods and provision but unfortunately for them a student saw them and reported to the poor owners of the store, the next morning some security personnel came and picked them from the hostel and that was how they were rusticated for a session…..

  • SELFISHNESS: SELF-CENTEREDNESS, GREED, INSATIABLE DESIRE FOR THINGS

  • This type is mostly found among people in authority positions e.g president, governor, vice chancellor, pastors, and so on. Most at times people who exhibit this type of case always do so because the populace or those who are affected by their actions, don’t know their right enough to ask/probe them. Take for instance:

…..It always happen in a country such as mine, whereby if the tenure of a president or governor (most especially) is coming to an end, all they know how to do that period is to loot public funds into foreign account for their own selfish use, and at the end of the day when they are caught eventually, they resort to bribing the security personnel who in turn let them have their way…

  • STEALING SPIRIT
  • This is the type I witnessed most of the time. This is a case whereby a person plans, monitors, and carry out an operation on taking what he/she did not toil for, with and without the fear of getting caught, and if peradventure things get wrong and he/she gets caught, he/she is ready to be beaten to pulp. I have witnessed so many of this kind of case, this is a combination of the two mentioned, the funny thing about this case is that when a person gets caught and is maybe released, he/she always still resort to stealing, that where the name STEALING-SPIRIT came from. Let me cite a scenario:

…There was a day, while we were making arrangement for an evening service in church, we were taking instruments, wires, chairs and so on up down the stairs in other to start early, so there was light and we brought the generator but since there was light we decided to leave the generator downstairs, while we carried away in the spirit of the service, unknown to us some guys have being planning and monitoring us. Now this is not the first time we have being keeping things downstairs but that particular day they decided to steal and unfortunately for us they took our generator and they were so fast, I mean they is no how they would have succeeded if that was not planned …

Another scenario which is very funny is while we were receiving lecture one sunny afternoon, the lecturer placed his phone on the table in front of everyone, I mean this table everyone could see it, so matter how cunny and smart the thief can be you must be caught but can you believe that at a close the lecture, the lecturer could not find his phone again, In fact I was perplexed at the creativeness of this guys, only if they could apply it to something good and worthwhile, life will be worth living….

  • PEER-PRESSURE
  • This is a type that is instigated by trying to please some persons in order to feel accepted or among. The good thing about this type of case is that it can be easily curbed. Most of the reasons mentioned above are generated from this particular type of case, so if we could in a way curb it ie stealing at its infancy stage then this world would be a better place to live in. TRUST ME…..

Stealing is an art. If you do all you can to prevent something from being stolen and the thieve still steals it? That is not laziness, that is well deserved. That person did their research and had balls of steel. Besides, the number one cause of theft is inequality, what causes inequality? ;)
