Married to society

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

With the current happenings around us, I wonder why people get married. I mean why go through the entire process if it's not genuine.
Marriages breaking up in all corners gives cause for concern. The African society applauds and celebrates the institution, but do we respect it? We graduate from a lot of things but then marriage should not be one of them. I came across a picture and saved it a while back and every time I scrolled through my phone, I passed that picture until today.

Staring at this picture gave me a new meaning to the word 'marriage '. Yes.... Love is important, it's just not enough. A successful marriage needs more than love to thrive. Maturity and understanding is as important as the sex in a marriage. Marriage is a transition, the beginning of a journey, a process of learning and deep intimacy.

Building love and trust as well as complimenting and supporting each other makes marriage a lot easier. Like everything in life, there will be ups and downs but only friendship will see the tough times through.
Don't get married because everyone is getting married.Prepare yourself and make sure every part of you is ready. Refuse to be a part of this competition. Do it cus you re ready and have found the right person, not because society expects it of you.

Lastly, I dare say forever is a very long time to be unhappy. No mother or father or family will live with you. After the wedding comes the marriage, make the right choice.
