I also think your writing improves when you let go of all fear and just let your thoughts pour out on to the paper. Do now worry about mistakes until you are done. Only edit after you are done writing.
Keeping a journal is a great way of improving one's writing. But do read what you wrote right after you are done and make the necessary edits, 2 days after you are done, a week after you are done and a month after and you will be able to see more of your mistakes and correct them.
