The effect of mental health on critical thinking

in #writing6 years ago

As a philosopher, Allow me to critically justify the effect of mental health on critical thinking in these few paragraphs below.

According to Aristotle; An early Greek philosopher, he defined thinking as "The mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it". Critical thinking in its own way, is not a matter of accumulation of information. A person with a good memory that knows a lot of facts is not necessarily good at Critical thinking. A Critical thinker is able to deduce consequences from what he knows, and how to use information to solve problems and to seek relevant sources of information to inform himself. We must dare to think about "Unthinkable things" because when things become "Unthinkable", thinking stops and action becomes mindless.

However, Critical thinking is a system that is often misjudged as criticism, but rather its focuses on the ability to follow logical steps and arrive at a decisive and appropriate conclusion. Its just more than just a concept, It is a real-life model upon which one can build successful and efficient problem solving skills that prove highly valuable in the workplace and beyond.

In relation to the topic above me, the effect of mental health on critical thinking has only a positive side. The juxtaposition of the effect of mental health on critical thinking will revolutionize our everyday life in the sense that when one becomes mentally endowed with the basis of Critical thinking, It helps one to move past the limitation of irrational thinking.

Researches have also shown that the effect of mental health on critical thinking, aided decision-making skills. As demonstrated in the Hanoch et al. (2007) study, critical thinking skills play an important role in clients' lives when it comes to health and medication. For instance, A medical doctor received a patient with complains of severe pain at the left side of the neck. As a rational thinker, he begins to question himself by critically analyzing what could be the diagnostic tests to be carried out on his patient. Critically making inferences from other closely-related cases, how and what best nature of treatment would be administerd to suit his patient with little or no defects. Such is the model of a mental Critical thinker.

The enhancement of critical thinking on mental health also spans to being a key to career success, that is, there are so many professions where Critical thinking is an absolute must..e.g lawyers, engineers and scientists of all kinds etc. Must apply critical thinking frequently. There are no shortcomings for one who has injected critical thinking in his/her mentality. With the application Critical Thinking skill as a mental development, one would be able to construct differing approaches to a problem, alongside an ability to assess those approaches critically. Rather than relying on a standard, uniform problem-solving method, one can learn how to identify other, often more valuable, approaches, inevitably increasing one's success.

In conclusion, As observed in earlycareer job ads over the past 3 years, the demand for one with intellectually inclined and a heightened mental Critical thinking skills is on the rise.
