How prepared are you for a labor market as a part time of a university

in #writing5 years ago

A colleague from where I'm working as a part time teacher contacted me on Friday asking for my help in writing an easy on the above topic since she is still an undergraduate in a university as a Distance Learning Student. I could not turned down is request even though I was busy with my stuff as well. Below is the easy if you find any mistake or an addition to the topic giving, feel free to put your opinion through in the comment section of my post.

It is no longer new that it is easier for an elephant to enter a tiny hole of a needle than a graduate getting employed to a respectable institution or organization of his or her choice in Nigeria and this is as a result of vast number of students that are entering our higher institutions, ranging from colleges, polytechnics and university every year. Since the number of students produce by each of these institutions is enormous compare to the number of available jobs; certificate alone could not be prerequisite to get a ready made job even for regular graduating students let alone DLC student like myself; this actually show that there is more to be done on my part if I wanted to get a chance in the Job market. If a regular student that graduated with good grade from a respectable university could be confronted with lot of challenge in getting employed in my country then, I wouldn't get a chance if I put my hand crossed. images - 2020-02-09T105814.818.jpeg

Similarly, it is therefore imperative for me as a DLC student to do even more to stay competitive and ahead of the game, amidst studying to gain a degree outside the university premises.
How can i get myself prepared for the job market? Since I couldn't get access to the university material in the library, I had to go online for information, and sat with others that were in the same field with me and tap from their experience as they say, 'experience is the best teacher.' So working with other with the same objective will not only lead to team work but it will go a long in preparing me for the job market.

Moreso, "The only source of knowledge is experience." - Albert Einstein. since this assertion is not far from the truth, it is a must to get experience in a related field if someone is to be considered for any job at all. As a DLC student, I'm working on getting a work experience in an organization or institution in line with my area of specialization before i complete my degree programme, by so doing, I believe I would be a edge above other colleagues that might just started to look for where to work and gather experience after their degree program. Nowaday, Most of the technology that businesses are using is not taught at university, therefore it was important for me to gain practical agency experience as this will boast my chance of getting a desirable employment.

Penultimate, skill acquisition; I have a degree and others also do, this is where a skill acquisition comes in place. Something must set one aside and does put one in place of prominent as the graduate seeking for employment are getting more and more each year. Recently, I registered for a program which deal mainly on verbal and written communication; ability to communicate effective and command respect with language which has helped me a lot at the institution I'm working now as I was able to influence other around me, making decision that other see as an obligatory to follow. Another important skill which I believe is relatively important if one is to get employed in an institution or organization of one's choice is Analytical and problem-solving;
Analytical thinking skills are critical in the workplace. It is essential for gathering data, solving complex problems, making rational decisions, as well as summarising data and executing well-thought-out projects; at my place of employment, I have been able to solve problem related with students inability to pass Use of English very well in their entrance examination into higher institution through creative an enabling environment for the student and making them see reason why they need to embrace team work since their aim and objective is the same.

In conclusion, with this set of skills and experiences gather over the past few months, I'm confident that I have an edge as an DLC student of university of Ibadan over potential job seeker in the Labour Market.
