Worship studies: Don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God?. James 4:4
Fear and greed are the motivators of those who live according to the flesh, greed is a consequence of concupiscence and fear a consequence of passions. It is from fear and greed that the works of the flesh come: "The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissension, factions and envy, drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.", Galatians 5:19-21.
The apostle James explains this in another way:
What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.
When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.", James 4:1-4.
Those who desire apparent goods are rejected by God, because God is perfect and does not agree with the error that is an imperfection of the world: "But your iniquities have separated you from God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear", Isaiah 59:2.
We enter the Kingdom of Heaven and worship God through conversion, that is, through the change from a life full of sins to a life of righteousness, God wants conversion, not an apparent faith: "Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.", James 4:8. We have to choose: Two mentalities, two paths and two retributions.
