Cocoa Seed Nursery for Easy and Big Growth
Growing Cocoa Seeds
Today, Aceh has been drenched in light rain and drizzle since morning, but I didn't let the rain stop me. I continued riding my repaired motorcycle to the garden area. Although my mind wasn't as calm as others might imagine, my patience and perseverance alone kept me calm in the garden area.
Preparing Seedlings in Cocoa Seed Boxe
A few days ago, I found some ripe cocoa pods, and this time I used the standard, very easy seeding method to promote rapid germination. I sowed them in polybags. Compared to planting cocoa seeds directly in the garden or soil, the growth is much slower, especially since it requires extra care.
Preparing Cocoa Seedlings for Seedlings
I sowed cocoa seeds because I had several piles of unused planting medium, which I had previously used to sow clove seeds. To save money, I used this planting medium to sow cocoa seeds. This will certainly increase my income in the future when I sell these cacao seedlings to the public, using the bud grafting system, so they bear fruit quickly.
In my current unstable health, I'm trying to cultivate my passion for doing things in the real world, collecting small planting media into three separate containers so I can plant the cacao seeds later,
as shown in the image below:
Making a hole in the soil and inserting the cocoa seeds
Before I sow the cocoa seeds into the planting medium, I first do the following:
- Make a hole in the soil
- Insert the cocoa seeds into the hole
I do both of these steps to speed up the process of inserting the cocoa seeds into the soil. This is part of the seeding process, and to prevent the roots that have begun to appear while still in the box from breaking.
After I've made a hole in the planting medium with a small pick, the next step is to insert the cocoa seeds into the small polybags. This should be done slowly and gently, as the new roots from the seeds, as shown in the picture, are very easily broken.
As shown in the picture below:
The final part, cover with sand instead of soil.
In this final section, I covered the entire top of the cocoa seedlings with sand, not soil. Some Steam users might be wondering, "Why cover them with sand and not soil?" The answer is, this is how I cultivate cocoa seedlings. Different nurseries have different methods. If we cover them with sand, we can experience several benefits, such as:
- Fail-safe nursery
- More fertile cocoa seedlings, free from ant pests
- Intact leaf tips: ants won't like damp sand unless it's dry
- Roots are healthier and can easily penetrate the soil roots
- When young leaf tips begin to emerge, the leaves emerge more easily above the growing medium.
- The salinity of the sand is not affected by leaf pests.
- Soil fungus will not grow in the cocoa beans' soil
- Earthworms will stay away from the bottom of the growing medium, which can hinder the growth of the cocoa beans.
So, those are some of the benefits of covering the growing medium with sand.
I hope this is helpful for Steem users who want to cultivate cocoa beans.
This is how I cultivate cocoa beans so they grow easily and grow large. After a few months, when the plants reach a maximum height of about 30 cm, we can graft them, so they can bear fruit within 1 to 1.5 years of planting in the ground.
Thank you to all Steemians who have supported my posts about cultivating agricultural crops. With your support, my enthusiasm for showcasing the various types of crops I cultivate will grow.
