Leafy Seadragon -- Design for a Shoji Screen, Part 4; Backing Veneer
For the back side of the folding screen panels, I am using some curly maple veneer left over from another project. Since I feel like I need some practice cutting and glueing tight seams, I decided I would lay it up in a herringbone pattern.
I will arrange these rectangles on the panel according to the marks laid out in ink. Hide glue can get wet and messy, I need these marks to be visible as reference for trimming the pieces.
The video shows the process of jointing the veneer.
You are inspiring me to do some more veneer work. I have never really developed the skill . You get some excellent results and really unique pieces.
Wait til you see the walnut burl go on. There was drama.
Nice step by step you discuss this
Looks really good!
