Woodworkers Assemble! Let's build a Woodworking Community
Good day fellow Woodworkers,
Today I read a post by @taskmaster4450 that was called,
' Why "Communities" Will Be A Gold Mine For Steemians: Bringing Whales And Minnows Together: Look At Reddit'
and you can read it Here
This got me thinking.
The #woodworking category already has an excellent array of talent and is growing everyday with new users joining us.
We have steemit craftspeople like:
@skycranehandwork who has a seriously good eye for design and uses hand tools with the highest skill.
@mrkstn1 who makes guitars using cigar boxes which blew my mind.
@fat-elvis who always has a project on the go and created the woodworking logo for us.
We also have new comers like,
@geeg who is making a great vlog on timber framing.
@canadianwoodguy who has over thirty years experience.
@guarddog who takes a spiritual approach and has made pieces for churches.
Too many new contributors to mention.
Then we have,
@dieterschneider an excellent craftsman from Norway ,who (with 26,000 youtube subscribers!!!) has come to steemit.
@mattofsawdust who make amazing reclaimed timber creations, have joined us and have a 100,000 plus following on instagram apart from a television appearance.
So let us continue to grow this corner of steemit.
It would be great to have a massive back catalogue of posts for learning purposes and support for anyone who needs it.
If we all pull in the same direction ,even just a little bit, I am convinced great things can happen.
Passing on the 'woodworking baton ' so to speak.
I am all ears for suggestions.
What do you think are good things to develop? A discord channel, steemit chat or maybe a weekly competition?
I also think this can be achieved without to much of a time demand.
Just posting as normal, using the tag and pointing interested steemians this way.
I intend to continue my blog ( which you can see here ) and develop a dtube vlog showing how I perform various tasks in my workshop.
Today I have put my money where my mouth is and powered up my steempower to one millivest. ( I had no idea what a millivest was until today)
This is because I will now have a percentage slider on my upvoting.
I want to upvote any good new content but I have been running extremely low on sp.
When the slider is up and running I will be able to give smaller upvotes to many rather than a few votes to a small amount of posts. ( not sure how long it takes)
I will be commenting actively every day in the woodworking category.
I will also be posting regularly within the #woodworking tag.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks for reading,
Gday guys,
@pheliment thanks for the tag mate, I'm very much keen to kick off the Woodworking community here.
I've been trying to get some of my 4000 Followers in Insta to sign up, the lure of money to buy tools should have been enough, but so far it hasn't worked.
I'm hoping to start posting more more woodwork related gear shortly once I clear my backlog of jobs :(
I'd be happy to start up a discord channel if you like so we can all chat regularly.
Hi @gohba.handcrafts and welcome. I will be checking out your blog asap. @skycranehandwork has kindly sorted a discord channel, Woodworking on Steem Discord Channel, but thank you for the offer. We will look forward to reading your woodworking posts. I know what you mean about a backlog ,I recently had to take time off here to get mine all up to date. Thanks
I'm in! I'm a bit of an amateur when it comes to #woodworking, and I mainly focus on #Cosplay and prop making. I'll resteem and upvote others that post about woodworking as it comes across my feed, would you guys do the same?
HI @ddrfr33k. I saw your post and it was great. I will be upvoting on woodworking posts of value and would welcome any new posts. If they include woodworking I will check it out. Thanks.
Sure thing! I'll be sure to tag my woodworking posts for you guys.
I’m in! Thanks for the kind words. It really means a lot.
I agree with you 100 percent. Do we have any idea when and what the “communities” will be? I don’t know where to start with it. How do we stake a claim to #woodworking ?
I do think discord is worth looking into, I like it better than steemchat.
Great and the comments were well deserved. I have no idea really and I think at this stage no one does but it will happen. We have staked our claim by being here and will strengthen it by posting often. I think the more we put in the more everyone will benefit. Discord sounds good for working out details and exchanging ideas. I have no idea how to set that up but it can't be that hard.
Thanks man

I just made a discord channel. I called it Woodworking on Steem. Follow the link.
Great job.
Thanks for the mention! I love it! Let's do it and make it awesome. I think you are on to something here!!!
Fantastic, glad to have you on board. A bit of focus and I think we can all create something very worthwhile.
Thanks
It's great that you're promoting other craftstpeople. There should be more like you on this platform.
I love the idea of building a library of 'how to' vlogs/blogs for wannabe crafters. It's inspiring me to start something similar. I don't always get time to indulge my crafty side but I've been a lifelong crafter and reckon I've got a skill or two to share.
Competitions always seem to be popular. The incentive to win something is always good. I just won 5 steem today from the awesome @phelimint here and it made me feel so good (even though I won by sheer luck of the draw haha).
Thanks Jist. I like the idea of a slider so that you can vote quality posts without smashing your voting power.
Thx for the mention! Contests are always a great way to build a community and following, but so are other events as well.
Thanks I think steemit can be a great learning resource that will be around forever. It would be great to see your crafting soon.
Hey @jist, I think your really into something here. Communities are huge and the backbone of steemit in my mind. I'm very passionate about community building. I'm not much of a woodworker myself, mostly for the lack of time, I do really enjoy it. I recruited a friend last night who's a huge woodworker and does a lot of how to posts on reddit. @gohba.handcrafts is also an amazing craftsman but rarely shows off his skill.
Anyways if you need any help or advice with your community building by all means let me know. Discord is likely best.
thanks for being available to help build this community. I feel very positive about this.
Hi @phelimint and thank you. I agree it is the backbone and everyone seems to be gravitating toward communities. I hope you get some time and post in the woodworking section. Excellent work getting a new steemian and I look forward to seeing some more of his posts.
And thanks I would appreciate your help as I am more of a craftsman than a tech guy and this stuff baffles me sometimes.
HI, @phelimint, I am also starting a woodworking competition for the weeks best woodworking post. I would appreciate your advise on this. I couldn't find you on discord but the wood working channel is up and running now if you want to drop in. Woodworking on Steem Discord Channel Thanks
Hey man, I think your really on the right track with your ideas. I've been thinking alot of other advice for you guys so I put it in a post. Hope it helps.

Thank you this is really helpful. It is hard to know where to start with these things but your post has made things a lot clearer.
Great idea, not sure what a discord channel is though :-) Thank you for the shout out! No clue on millivest, but I'm sure I get there at some point.
Discord is a chat room. Here is the link, Woodworking on Steem Discord Channel we can all share ideas, ask questions and promote posts there.
This is perfect! My dad loves woodwork and has created some really cool stuff over the years. Maybe this post will inspire him to join the party here on Steemit.
Here is an example of the epic king post truss that he did for mine and my partners place:
That is an awesome king truss. He would be a welcomed addition to the community.
WE have set up a ' Woodworking on Steem' discord channel.

Thanks
Thanks for the mention my friend. May I suggest something. Perhaps we can set up a channel on discord to chat with fellow woodworkers.
