Maryam Mirzakhani,an Iranian woman, who was the first woman winner of mathematics' Fields medal, the most prestigious award in mathematics, dies due to breast cancer at 40
When Maryam Mirzakhani was studying at high school in Tehran, she was the first Iranian girl to win the gold medal as well as the first Iranian student who achieved the perfect score and won two gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
She said “When I was in the USA, they were always asking me ’Are Iranian girls able to study at the university?‘ She answered this question by the best way: Yes, not only are they studying and working as well as women elsewhere but also they can be the only women in the world to win the Fields medal, the most prestigious award in mathematics, on 13 August 2014 after 75 years . I Hope it will not be another 75 years before the next woman winner of the Fields medal.
May her eternal soul rest in peace.
