The French government is currently working on new rules to reduce abuse against women on the streets.

If the proposed new rule is approved by parliament, then a man could be fined 90 euros or about Rp 1.5 million if tempting women in public spaces.

A government report recommends penalties for those who have behaviors that are considered disruptive to women's freedom in the public sphere and underestimate the self-esteem and the right to security.

This plan was carried out by a parliamentary working group on street abuse initiated by gender equality minister Marlene Schiappa.

Schiappa, a longtime ally of President Emmanuel Macron, said in September that a new step was set up to organize a "gray area" between reasonable temptation and sexual aggression.

Men who make indecent words about women, follow women, or block their paths can be fined.

This working group proposes for those who immediately admit mistakes and want to pay a fine then penalty 90 euros or about Rp 1.5 million.

However, the fine will increase to 200 euros if it has not been paid in 15 days and again increased to 350 euros if it is deeper than 15 days.

The report will be presented next week by Schiappa with Justice Minister Nicole Belloubet and Interior Minister Gerard Collomb.

The ministers will later submit a bill on sexism and sexual violence to parliament.

However, critics judge that this rule will not solve the problem and is nothing more than a small talk.

"The stalkers will not wait for the police to harass a woman," said Anais Bourdet, founder of Facebook group Pay Ta Shnek.

This group holds and records all the testimonies of women who have been abused. Similarly the daily L'Obs.

According to data from the Higher Council of Equality of Men and Women, 100 percent of women claim to have been sexually abused on public transport at least once.

As many as 82 percent of all women questioned were less than 17 years old.
