Witness Update - Presenting Dustsweeper
It has been almost a month since my witness journey begun and things are moving along smoothly and slowly. Since my last update, I've moved from #152 to #141 in the ranking.
With the current rate, I'm producing a block every 30 hours or so. I'm still well in the red, but with a higher STEEM price and a few more helping votes, I could soon be breakeven. 😀
@dustsweeper - Helping minnows profit from dust
The idea for @dustsweeper came after seeing several minnows being frustrated that their posts/comments with low upvote values would not pay out. Comments with $0.01 and $0.02 would suddenly be worth nothing at payout.
Designed by @charisma777
This is a witness supported initiative and my co-joint project with @davemccoy.
The concept of @dustsweeper is simple, we want everyone to feel that their vote isn't wasted and turned into dust, especially for minnows, whose 100% vote might only be worth $0.01. So we solved the problem by creating a community bot, a subscribe service that will upvote your posts or comments if they have an upvote value of less than $0.025.
Please check out the Dustsweeper announcement post
After 3 days of operations, @dustsweeper is holding around 2800 SP and have around 100 users subscribing. Dave and I have delegated 2200 SP to get it started.
Other delegations are currently coming from: @abh12345 (200 SP), @tarazkp (200 SP), @preparedwombat (100 SP) & @simplymike (75 SP).
Thank you so much for your support!
If you are interested to help out but afraid to waste your SP, please check out @minnowbooster's lease request market: https://www.minnowbooster.net/market. There is currently 1 open request from @dustsweeper.
STEEM_MIN_PAYOUT_SBD
This is the setting in the blockchain which defines the threshold for a valid payout. I understand that this was put there for a purpose. While I haven't been able to trace the origin I can only guess it is there to limit tiny claims and reduce spam. While the blockchain has other means of dealing with spam, I feel this measure is the most more harmful for normal operations, especially for new Steemians.
It is also very confusing and I can understand the frustration to see a post worth $0.02 suddenly be turned into dust. If the condenser(Steemit interface etc.) is using a precision of 2 decimals, it would make much more sense to have this threshold set to $0.005. A post below that threshold would then display a value of $0.00 throughout its payout lifetime, and in the end, it wouldn't pay out anything. Simple and less room for confusion.
Furthermore, the blockchain has already other means of dealing with spam, like the STEEM_VOTE_DUST_THRESHOLD setting and account bandwidth, which both will limit activities on the blockchain proportional to the size of the account.
While I think it is important to improve spam prevention, I feel the minimum payout threshold, due to the direct negative implications for new Steemains, is not the optimal vehicle.
Please let me know your feedback.
@hitmeasap delegation support
In the last week, I had some nice interactions with a fellow Swede on the platform, @hitmeasap. He was very generous to donate some SBD to the latest round of the Comment Challenge.
@hitmeasap is one of the people who is truly spending his time caring about others and with a mission to delegate 100% of his SP. One of his latest milestone goals was to get another 75 SP for a delegation to @asapers and @lynncoyle1. To show my appreciation for his donation and the work he is doing, I decided to fill that gap and delegated to missing 75 SP.
That's all for now
Stay safe and help make this a better world.
I promise I will try to serve you as many blocks as possible until next time. 😀
ps. If you wonder about the cool @dustsweeper graphics above, they were all designed by @charisma777. Please check out her post: https://steemit.com/dust/@charisma777/a-gift-for-dustsweeper
It looks like @dustweeper could buy about 50 steem power. A 2% boost is better than nothing. Hopefully you don't run out of vote power for it.
We have 1000 SP in the market now.
It is difficult to estimate exactly how much we need. We have an automatic stop to prevent the voting power from going too low and then we are trying to estimate how much more SP we need to add.
Shout out to @charisma for her Graphic Illustrations :)
Also, one to @Tarazkp you said you would delegate and you did :) Kudos
@danielsaori You are already on my witness list and also have been added as the first witness to @thehive I have not read your paper, these vote for witness are from what I have seen of you in Steemit and from knowing of your interactions with @davemccoy , other witness higher up have a link to their witness proposal, I do not have one to your own, could you provide a link here please?

i didnt know you were witness too! i might have to make sure that my proxy votes for you ;)
Yes, it is a new thing. Exactly 30 days today or tomorrow if I'm not mistaken. :)
Happy if you can find a way to cast your vote. Thanks for your support!
you've got it!
Glad to see you moving up @danielsaori. I LOVE dust sweeper.
I totally agree with this. Increasingly I'm seeing that a lot of witnesses really how no idea what it's like to be a minnow in today's environment. They think it's the same as it was when they were minnows. 😢
I'm not sure what you mean by this. Could you explain a bit more please?
Thanks Gillian!
For this service, we need SP to operate. As we can't expect people to delegate SP for free, we are using the delegation market from minnowbooster.net. We have now an open request for 500 SP where we are willing to pay about 13STEEM for the delegation. Minus fees, it should be a 24% annual return for the delegator.
Hmmmm. Sorry @danilsaori I still don't understand. I've never really understood minnowbooster.net.
The delegation market on minnowbooster is to facilitate delegations. As we are currently interested to get more SP we have put a request on their market. Looks like this:
So anyone willing to delegate 500 SP could fill this order and get around 27% annual return on that investment.
Oh I see @danielsaori. Thank you very much for the explanation. Now I get it! 😁
I've already said this on like, four other threads today, but I'll repeat myself here. THANK YOU for this! You're fixing a big problem I was having with not being able to show my followers the appreciation I wanted to. Such a great idea.
Thank you for dropping a comment and showing your support.
Cheers!
Thank you so very much for the delegation through @hitmeasap to me Daniel! I am so very thankful for it!
I am also thankful for @dustsweeper; it's great to see someone create a bot that is selfless and giving. That is something I appreciate very much! I wonder if you're next bot-venture could be along the same lines but work this way: I have a recent post which has a lot of people commenting, and I really want to go and upvote all of them, but my VP is too low to do that. I would like a dustsweeper that can help me show appreciation to those who take the time to comment on my posts. I was just actually talking to Dave about it today, but since I'm here, I thought I'd put the bug in your ear as well ;)
I'm pleased to see you moving successfully in the witness ranking as well. Slow and steady wins the race I hope :)
Thank you for all you do for steemit @danielsaori !!
oh and I almost forgot, in my excitement at the onset of @dustsweeper, I sent "it" 5 sbd to put towards the initiative, but I'm assuming it went to me personally instead. It's not much, but if you're able to 'pull it out of there', I would very much appreciate it.
Cheers :)
Thank you for the lovely comment Lynn!! That made my day.
It was very nice of you to donate to support this initiative. If you don't mind I will leave it as it is. Everyone transferring cash are basically supporting dustsweeper. It is money we can use to grow or rent SP and then pay it back by removing the dust. You will have 10 SBD in your balance, but hopefully you will use that within a few weeks/months. See it as a Thank You from @dustsweeper. ;)
aww Daniel, now your comment made my day :)
Thank you so much! I've been hearing such great things from a lot of different people about @dustsweeper by the way. You guys came up with a winner for sure ;)
And yes, I'll use the 10 SBD up no problem haha
Heard about dustsweeper this morning, great idea! Send 1 sbd and already had some dusted votes that will now not be lost :) So I will add you to my witness list as appreciation! My only concern is (after someone said this is not a good idea) will this cause trouble with the cat that flags everyone because votes are bought, and it's at 1 day before payout? Maybe you can take away this concern?
Thanks!
Thanks for the support Anouk.
I think it won't be an issue with the cat. This is not a bid bot and the value received is a meager $0.028 per vote. We could reduce the voting time to 3 days, but then fluctuations in the steem price could cause the post to drop below the threshold before payout.
Ok lets hope its not going to be a problem.. if people will have that issue I guess we will fins out soon enough.. :)
i have upvoted for your witness @danielsaori
Congratulations
The operation has been successfully broadcasted.

if i can give some suggestion, maybe 1 SBD per month is too expensive for a minnow like me.
maybe the system like minnowsupport is better, and can be implemented
the 2nd suggestion is the sistem like "One Time Registration", because minnow usually confuse at the beginning.
buat i appreciate your idea to make helpful robot for small minnow like me
You can actually send any amount that is bigger than $0.014. Will have an FAQ post out soon to clarify a few things.
For the 2nd suggestion I don't really understand what you mean. There is no need for registration, just transfer some SBD or STEEM and you are done. Or maybe I missed something.
Cheers!
I see that you are making progress @danielsaori I am very happy, the idea of sweeping the dust is great, I think it is the best way and a great incentive for us when many times we are at $0 I am sure I will see the details, glad to greet you
Thanks for being awesome @danielsaori and thanks for the mention and the support. It's truly awesome. - If I could, I would've voted for you again.
Unfortunately, I had to cancel all my delegations today due to some unforeseen circumstances. I will reinstate my delegations in 4 weeks from now, but until then, my delegations are on hold.
My goal is, as always, to delegate 100% of my Steem Power and I will do that once I reinstate my delegations again.
No worries, one vote is more than enough. ;)
Please take care and I hope to see you back in 4 weeks, at full speed with your delegation initiative. I will keep my delegations, it is only 75 SP after all.
