RE: Witness Update - DragosRoua

Do you think the RCS will make it easier to suspend accounts or make it more difficult, is suspending accounts even possible? I know if the account is created through steem, they can remove the delegation. Just a little concern about the Resource Credit System. I do not want to make it difficult for new users, but on the other hand I do not want to make it easier for troll type activity accounts.

Sort:

A decentralized social media app has some very serious differences from a centralized one. There isn't really a "central point" that can block / unblock accounts, all accounts are freely created on blockchain. Their fraudulent behavior then must be enforced in a de-centralized way too, so building an authority that would have the power to suspend accounts doesn't seem the right path to me.

It takes a while to adjust to this new way of behaving and when you get the gist of it, you realize that protecting from the bad guys is a community effort. Some members of the community are more prominent and visible on this specific activity (like @arcange, or @cheetah or @steemcleaner) while others, like me, prefer to educate, educate, educate a lot. Because, no matter how many scams are running around, you can't be scammed if you're an informed, educated person.

Both approaches work, each in its own way.

So, what would be the decentralized way of punishing fraudulent behavior? I agree, it doesn't seem right that it be Steemit Inc., or necessarily a majority of witnesses, be it simple, supermajority or absolute. There's still power being concentrated among 20.

But what then becomes the decentralized way? Everyone casting a vote until we get to a majority? I'm not sure what the mechanism is. I just know it would be nice to have one, and if it already exists, to educate people about it and implement it.
