The task of the wise: He will show the wisdom of what he has learned and glory in the Law of the Lord's covenant. Ben Sira 39:8

The master of wisdom Ben Sira described in his book what it means to be wise and what is the main task of someone who makes wisdom his ultimate goal in life. And this topic is of great importance because all the sapiential books in the Bible such as Proverbs, Wisdom, and Ben Sira are clear on one issue: when a society fails, it is because a science fails, and that science is wisdom, something that in the modern world can be easily corroborated when is observed the difference between rich and poor countries. The wisdom is the knowledge of the correct means to live, the science of the first and ultimate causes according to Aristotle; when men accept this science, men are ordered to their true end, which is to increase the order and perfection of the universe. But the opposite can also occur, as the story of the Bible tells us, when men forget wisdom due to oppression and the heresies, only madness, hopelessness, and error remain, something that Jesus denounced when he faced his enemies, the Pharisees and Sadducees, wisdom is a gift that the Christian faith has permanently present.
This is why when a wise man governs a society, he orders, rehabilitates and restores hope to the oppressed, instructs and educates his people, and places the best in the most important positions. And this in Christianity coincides with communion, the ethical order of society. The wise man is in every sense the model of man to follow, because in him a teaching of the gospel is fulfilled: "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect" Matthew 5:48.
This is why Ben Sira left an interesting reflection on what the wise do through their most distinctive art and what characterizes them, which is the art of listening:
"He will show the wisdom of what he has learned
and glory in the Law of the Lord's covenant" Ben Sira 39:8.
Great sages such as King Solomon and the prophets Daniel and Isaiah, to name a few, have left an indelible legacy in the human history, and their teachings and actions still inspire men almost three thousand years later.
