Western Australian Wines that are Drinkable? Have I Gone Insane?

The one thing that I learned about turning 40 recently, is that all my friends and family must think that the only thing I do with my spare time is drink wine and whiskey. I now have more red wine and whiskey than I have places to store them.

The positive of this of course, is that I now have an abundance of wines to review. And this is my first since crossing into a new decade of existence on this little blue ball of ours.

So, let's crack open the first bottle of my new collection!

Byron & Harold Estate - Circle of Life Four Seasons

I'll be honest here. I'm not normally a fan of Western Australian wines and tend to avoid them, unless I'm given them for free.

I had low expectations for this wine. And not just because it's from Western Australia. There's also very little information available online about this wine. Generally, if a wine is worth drinking, people are talking about it. And that's not really the case here.

Byron & Harold Estate describe this wine as:

Lifted bouquet of complex dark fruits and violets with underlying dense dark chocolate. Full fleshy mouth feel of bramble fruits, cherry, hints of chocolate with subtle savoury spice and well integrated firm tannins. Supported by complex oak with great length and a fine, full finish. A generous, flavoursome, medium weight red wine.

Personally, I found this wine to be subtle but reasonably complex in aroma and flavour. The wine pours a deep red, very similar to a good shiraz. There are notes of cherries and dark fruits in the aroma however I didn't detect any of the chocolate mentioned above.

On the palate, the cherries follow through along with a light sweetness and soft tannins. The wine has a soft finish, and a lingering sweetness. The sweetness isn't overpowering like a dessert wine, but is quite pleasant.

The wine isn't overpowering so would suit a variety of dishes for pairing. Perhaps not seafood or light vegetarian meals though.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this wine. Western Australia is mostly known for it's white wines, however has been known to produce a decent cabernet from time to time. And in this example, it has produced a great cabernet and merlot blend.

And for this price, you really can't go wrong. It can be quite hard to find a good wine at this price, but that is what we have here.

Great review, my friend. Your mastery of the written word is inspirational for me. I don't feel competition, I feel motivated to be better!

This sounds like a nice wine. Beautiful label! And who cares what your friends think. Having an abundance of wine is a badge of honor. If you had no wine at home, then perhaps we'd wonder why you cannot keep any on hand... 😉

So, I realized that one of our wines at the store is an Australian Shiraz from the Barossa Valley. It is now on clearance and I set a bottle aside to buy. I expect to taste and review it in the weeks ahead, so keep an eye peeled out for that...

Thanks @braveboat. I’m always trying to improve my writing style as well. Steemit has been great for that purpose.

I did actually have some friends visit once who are recovering alcoholics. They commented that they could tell that I wasn’t an alcoholic given that I had so many bottles of wine sitting about the house. It was an interesting conversation to have.

What’s the Barossa wine that you have stashed away? I can’t wait to see what you think of it. :)

There are some real gems from WA, you just have to go through some really thin and sipid ones before you find it.

The Margaret River region is definitely my preference for WA wines. Look out for a Voyager Estate or Woodlands wine. You may be pleasantly surprised 😉

I've had Voyager before. I wasn't impressed for the price. I don't think I've had Woodlands though. Might have to keep an eye out for them. :)

The one winery that really surprised me was Faber, which is in the Swan Valley. Their Shiraz is something else. I was really impressed by it given that the region isn't really well suited to the grape.

Your reviews make me so thirsty. Great post though, very well written!

Thanks mate :)

You go harass new users and now when I provide evidence of your cheating you hide in a corner instead of facing the accusations. Next time you accuse me of plagiarism show evidence like I'm showing to everybody you are a CHEATER who pay BOTS for upvotes. You are raping the reward pool. You are a hypocrite. Do not harass new users anymore OK

Mate, you were shown evidence of your plagiarism. Links were provided to the sites that you took content from. Both for images and text.

As far as these accusations of "cheating" are concerned. I pay for votes for a competition that I enter (my entry receives more tickets when I buy upvotes for the competitions main post) and for Tub Cat, which is an account that needs to be grown quickly in order for it to provide the services that the account is intended to provide.

Voting bots, when used correctly, are not "raping the reward pool" or "cheating" as you say they are. They actually serve a purpose and can be quite useful when used correctly.

And after a very quick check of your account, I can see that you are also using resteem services and voting bots. So I'm confused as to why you would accuse anyone of being a hypocrite or a "cheater".

Finally, the only time that I will comment in a negative way on a person's post is when they are clearly spamming Steemit for the purpose of "raping the reward pool" or plagiarising material. Which you did in one of your recent posts.

You're new here, so a simple word of advice; don't pick fights when you don't fully understand what you're talking about. And if you fuck up, then simply admit the error and move on. You could have saved me a large amount of voting power, and yourself a bunch of flags.

You are a hypocrite because you pretend to be a rightful user. You go out of your way to harass new users you are paying for likes and followers. How is paying for likes more honest and rightful than copying content from someone else?

You are basically stealing from the reward pool every time you pay to get your crappy content upvoted. Compare my wallet with yours and we can clearly see you paid for each and every one of your posts, I do not pretend to be on the right side. I will overtake you in followers in a matter of days so you can do nothing more than yell plagiarism as your only excuse to go and harass new users. You know you are a jealous loser. If you had some guts you should leave my comments here so people can judge for themselves who is in the right side.

There is already Cheetah bot that identifies plagiarism, whatever you are trying to do has nothing to do with plagiarism you are just leading people to vote for your shit posts. Lets face it you are a 40 year old loser picking fights where you shouldn't. I give a fuck about your flags. You are a loser with no real power. If you ever go to harass me again I will ensure to flood all your posts with red flags and in the end you are way more invested in this than I am so you have more to lose. I warn you do not mess with me or any new users you loser

If you have to ask that question then perhaps you shouldn't be writing blogs about anything other than your drug taking in India.

I'm not sure why you think I'm interested in how many followers you have. And if you grow your account to a larger size then mine then well done. All the power to you.

But it's obvious that you're failing to understand the simplest of things here. So go spend your time on something more worthwhile. We're both wasting our time here.

I will leave you alone when you promise to stop harassing new users. Why do you want to harass new users, even if they are doing plagiarism? Do you get a power trip from giving red flags?

If you want this community to grow, do not harass new users. Not everybody has to conform to what you believe is right or wrong. I do not want to have anything to do with you so stay away from me and stop harassing people who are probably half your age OK

I blog for fun the one that seems all in for money is you with multiple accounts and paying all the existing BOTS. Common courtesy is to let your readers know you are PAYING to get likes and rewards because your content is crap.

You are just jealous that despite all your cheating and all the support from your cronies my posts get more upvotes than yours. I had my one and only account for a week and I already have the same number of followers as you. Why? Because my content is interesting to people unlike yours, pretentious self-righteous CHEATER.

And you can keep flagging all you want but the truth is you paid several bots and if someone checks your wallet we can see you recently paid the following bots to get upvotes: minnowbooster, treeplanter, drotto, sleeplesswhale, hottopic, buildawhale, dimarss, sneaky-ninja, lovejuice, and the list keeps going.

If you upvote this guy be aware he is cheating his way. Most of his rewards are paid or come from his multiple accounts. Do not get tricked by him!

nothing to say in your defense CHEATER, other than flagging?
