Ravens

in #wildlife7 years ago

When properly trained, Ravens have been known to repeat some human words, just like Parrots. Some people even argue they speak better than Parrots.
When Ravens aren’t able to break a carcass open, they imitate the call of wolves or other animals, Bringing their attention to the meal and having the leftovers after they are done. You cannot over emphasize how smart a Raven is. One was seen opening a properly closed trash can just to look for a meal. They master the act of distracting another Animal while making away with its food.
They are extremely playful. I once watched a Raven use a tree branch as a swing. I’ve seen them slide off roofs.
They don’t forget easily: Ravens and their cousins, Crows have been known to recognize people. While understudying them, people make sure they mask their faces just to avoid being frustrated by them. They easily remember birds they like and birds they don’t like and would reply in the best ways possible.
Ravens are amongst the smartest creatures in the world, but I do not understand why they are so underrated.
