PSA: upvoting a 'payout declined' post still drains voting power!

in #warning7 years ago

TL;DR: Use smaller votes to show support on 'payout declined' posts

I decided something was amiss when noticing the payout declined posts still show some value behind them, so I decided to test this theory and as it turns out if you upvote payout declined posts it still drains your voting power! The same amount of voting power loss as if you voted on anything else, but you won't be having any curation rewards from that.

Now, of course, I get the idea of your voting anyway after seeing the declined reward strike because I do it too - you want to show some support like a thumbs up even if the author isn't taking the money you still want that like button. So then my suggestion is to just use a 1% vote for these kinds of posts when you still want to upvote it, because then the drain on your voting power will be very tiny and considering the author opted into declined payout I think they will be ok with that too.

Anyway I hope this helps you save a bit of voting power occasionally. If it's not something you already knew about, or think maybe your followers don't already know this, consider a RESTEEM!

Bonus Fact:
upvoting something that has already paid out (past 7 days) does NOT drain voting power :)

The value of the upvote is "burned" so you are essentially still helping the ecosystem just not your own wallet directly.

Interesting, have a great day. You are overdelivering! Following you.

You went to Harvard. I thought that was just for tv douchs haha

Is it ok if I tell people we are friends? lol

EDIT: I am from Ireland soooo u know...having a friend who went to Harvard could make me president someday

EDIT EDIT: Overdeliverying? I am just super bored and cant sleep. May as well be helpful somewhere.

I played on the tennis team at Harvard. Two of my team members were from Ireland. Cool guys. I don't really know how I got in, because I didn't get great grades in school.

Will you be a good president? What are your policy stances, then I will decide whether you can tell people we are friends LOL.

I used to work for this really cool guy who told me afterwards when we met years later that I always underpromise and overdeliver. For me it was a huge compliment.

Thanks for commenting and have a great day. Following you.

great content! and thanks again for following!

silly question but here goes. how does one know that the author has declined votes ? thanks for sharing i've resteemed

there will be a strikethrough on the payout amount such as $1.00

good to know thank you :)

Thank you very much. Resteem, other people ought to know. The Feed is not very helpful for alerting me to interesting posts. Cheers.

Can I ask one more thing 😊
How many vote that I can vote for a day???
I will really appreciate that if you can help me with this 🤗
@kaminchan

Hi @sakhone. You should not vote more than twelve times per day as a minnow. Because it will drain your voting power too much. Wait another twenty hours, your power will be filled in by the system about 20% of steem power. Try to keep the voting power at 80%! If you vote too many times per day, your votes will become light, no voting points for the blog.

🙏🙏Thank you so much for information
I really appreciate that @kaminchan

Good information thank you for sharing
Up vote and resteem
@alphacore

Thanks for this. Upvoted and re-steemed!

thank you foe sharing knowledge!
I've upvoted and resteemed!

Spot on @alphacore! It is illogical to see that a declined post is getting upvotes worth hundreds of dollars. Why would anyone do that? I mean those votes could have gone to another author who hadn't delined payout.

I think the people who upvote popular posts/authors only are the people who upvote these posts too out of their casual voting habits.

I'd say it is better to curate a post by a minnow than to upvote on a declined payout post. Thanks for the message. I resteemed to get it across my followers

Thank you very much for this information, I wasn't aware of this.

you're welcome ^_^

done follow you.. for better curate
