The road to Decentraland

My recent interest in VR and the Decentraland has led me to get on to the chat group and keep abreast with the project. The lead developer on the project recently commented on the road ahead in terms of upcoming product releases from the Decentraland team:

We[Decentraland] have three/four products that we'll release before the end of year:

1) Terraform auction: The interface for placing bids for the land plots not assigned for districts.
2) District placement & governance: An interface for districts to design and distribute the land plots that people staked for.
3) Iron age beta: The client from which you can explore the world.
4) Land management tool: A dApp to manage land you already own, and upload new scenes to it

It's ambitious schedule, and I'm sure that members of the community won't hold the developers feet to the fire to meet that schedule, but so far they have delivered. The first part of terraforming had issues like any innovative new way of doing things would have, but overall it was a big success with the various districts now having momentum in their community and team building. I'm involved in a couple of districts, and have staked in a couple of others to be part of it - Aetherian project is one.

The Aetherian project is huge - it now has over 5,500 Land tiles staked. I cannot wait to be part of that cyberpunk city - I have a some land staked there. The proposors/project-leads drew inspiration from books such as Snowcrash by Neal Stephenson.

Maybe I will just build a cool place to hang out in VR, or maybe I will engage in a business idea. If you are interested you can find out more at http://chat.decentraland.org and if you like the sound of the Aetherian cyber punk project then maybe a good place to start is checking them on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AetheriaProject

So I am very excited to play a part in this story. You can too! I just bought some Mana, and then used the terraforming application to stake for Land in the districts I was interested in. Mana is easier than ever to buy - those of us that have been following this project were delighted when Mana, the currency of Decentraland was added to the Bittrex crypto exchange. https://bittrex.com/Market/Index?MarketName=BTC-MANA
It's a buyers market at the moment so for those genuinely interested in getting into the decentralised version of VR, this might be a good moment to buy some Mana and throw yourself into this welcoming community of wannabe VR pioneers!
