Vlog: We protect what we love results🤟🌎❤️
Thanks for all the support at my 1000th post. Hoped for being it a big topic on Steemit but wouldn’t have dare to dream about the upvotes and the replies I got in the short time left.
First, I would need to correct myself, my research wasn’t perfect, World Cleanup Day was everywhere. I don’t know how I could have missed this website 🙈
The results from the Cleanup Day worldwide are still being updated. But as for now the project states that they had 13 million people who did volunteer for this. So, I think they have sent a message around the world. You can read their press-release here.
For the Netherlands thousands of people did join the action. All together we’ve cleaned 35000 registered pieces of litter. But When I look at myself I think this must be way more. Because I didn’t tag everything in the Litterati app on my phone. I needed to film things, and at a certain event happening while cleaning I was to be disappointed by mankind…
The results for the Netherlands
- Cigarette butts
- Cans
- Packages
- Bottles
- (plastic) cups
From all this litter, approx. 60% was plastic. Yes even in cigarette butts they use plastics. Far behind the plastics follows paper and metal.
What did I found during the day? Well I think the place I started to cleanup things was a popular place to eat your menu from McDonalds. Because a lot of the litter was something with the M on it. Another favorite thing to consume there was Red Bull (or a cheaper brand energy drink). So many tin cans unbelievable…
But the most embarrassing part was actually while I was cleaning things a group of cyclists passed by doing their training thing. And I know you need some sugar, fluids etc. for the energy level during training. But one of the guys from the group thought he was funny I think. He throw away his package from a gel he used, to keep up his energy level. He throw it away in my face, with the text ‘while you’re cleaning things here, I have something for you’. I was really standing there $%^%@@^# (can’t repeat the words I used sorry). Not getting pissed that quick, but boy he crawled under my skin that day. Dude I do hope your reading this and you feel ashamed.
Let’s keep things positive
A lot of people showed they do care about the world. The let’s do it world foundation shows a lot of videos from people all over the world cleaning things up in their area. I hope we can bring this to Steemit next year way bigger with a lot more attention. Good for Steemit and good for the world I think. 🌎
Can we think of a way to help the world next year? Or actually don’t wait and bring your litter back home.
Hang loose! 🤙

A great eco-citizen gesture
Glad to see you using #cleanplanet tag !
Pleasure is al mine. Last weekend at my local surfspot everything was clean. So there are places people know how things work thankfully !
I love it - and instead of trashing the trash we should send it back to to companies wrapping up their goods in nature harming way.
I'm not sure if this would change things because with all the wrapping/containers/packagings transported back to the companies. All the transport brings some damage to the environment to. Maybe better to use all the power social media has nowadays?
Good for you @guchtere! and that guy who threw the gel package sounds like an ass! Imagine what this world would look like if everyone picked up one thing every day?! As beautiful as it is here in Mexico, littering is a real problem so whenever I'm at the beach especially, I'm always picking up bits and pieces of junk, especially plastic. I don't think the ocean needs any more of that!
Congratulations on the 1000th post too! That's awesome:)
The world would look way better. Just mentioned it above, my local surfspot was clean, even the beaches at my place are clean, so I already know how the world could look like, but you wish the whole world would look like that! Good to hear you try to pick up some things to 😍 The oceans can miss the plastics indeed. Allthough I still hope the ocean loves the few hours a year that my surfboard and sails are floating in it 😇
How big is the littering problem in Mexico? Just like in Peru far away from the tourist places it's trash everywhere?
Yep, trash absolutely everywhere! And no recycling to speak of. It's so difficult to see, in a place with such beauty. That's why I can't help but pick up some when I see it; I have to feel like I'm doing something.
I'm sure the ocean loves the feel of your surfboard and sails by the way :)
Pff damn this is so sad to hear...:(
The people just don't care or they just don't know better?
I hope the oceans likes it, sometimes I smash it really hard when I crash 🤣
