The Attributes to Fulfill Your Vision - Lessons learned
Some of the glaring attributes to fulfill a mission are exhibited by the most admired man in the world.
Who is this man? He is now the current 7th Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr Mahathir.
The last international survey shows that 13% of the people interviewed gave their support to Tun Dr Mahathir as the most admired man in the world. The second person who had the support of almost 8% of the people is Bill Gates, the billionaire and philanthropist.
What are some the attributes these admired persons have? Some of the characteristics of the attributes are shown clearly by this 93 years old statesman Tun Dr Mahathir.
The first of all the attributes is discipline, the second is their vision, the third is their attitude and their ability to admit their mistakes and move on.
- Discipline
Just imagine this man is 93 years old and he is leading a coalition of four parties: Justice party, the Democratic Action party (DAP), the Integrity party (AMANAH) and his own new party Bersatu or Unity party. All the parties were his former enemies when he ruled the country for 22 years (1980 - 2002) as the 4th Prime Minister (PM) under Barison National coalition led the United Malay National organisation (UMNO). He was the president of UMNO at the time.
After retiring from politics for 15 years, he realised that his two successors are not following his vision to develop the country but involved in corruption enriching themselves. He had the discipline to come back to change the situation at the age of almost 93. The 5th and 6th Prime Ministers were powerful and had full control of the government machineries and they did not listen to his advice. The government appears to be invincible and 'the cash is king' prime minister Nazib Razak (7th PM) had the money to buy votes from the rural voters who are predominaly Malays.
The opposition coalition could not reach the rural folks and the civil servants. And the only person the rural folks and civil servants would listen is Tun Dr Mahathir. It took him great determination and discipline to reach out for the rural folks and he wrote letters to all departments of the civic servants. It was his discipline and hard works in explaining to them that changed the voting pattern of the rural folks and the civil servants. Corruptions were so rampant that he was able to call the PM a kleptocrat and a thief. The rural folks listened and were convinced to vote for the opposition in spite of money they received from the PM. The discipline of this man is extraordinary and the opposition coalition won the election under his leadership.
This is the picture of the 6th PM of Malaysia, Nazib Razak and his wife. Mahathir calls him a thief and a kletocraft.
Mahathir had no choice but to join the opposition pact to topple the government. What does he have? He has the discipline and the determination on his mission. This clearly demonstrates that to achieve anything you need the discipline even if you are as old as Tun Dr Mahathir. He is now serving as the 7th PM of Malaysia at the age of 93.
He has the discipline to clock in at 9.00 am and worked for 10 hours a day to get things done for the country. His discipline will provide a better and united country for Malaysia. Changes are taking place daily and many wrongs are corrected. The judiciary is going to be transformed and given its independence. The attorney general, the director of anti-corruption agency and other important bodies will soon be answerable to the parliament and not the PM. The absolute power of the PM will be curtailed to avoid abuse as it is happening now. His discipline will be admired before he steps down in two or three years time as he promises. He admits that he is there to change all the mistakes he had made during his 22 years rule not for the power at the age of 93.
- Vision
When he was in power for 22 years from 1980 to 2002, he had the vision of making Malaysia a developed country in his vision 2020. That vision was jeopardised by his own mistake when he sacked his capable deputy when he was about to challenge him for the control of his party. His deputy was charged for sodomy and abuse of power and sent to jail for 6 years. Later his deputy, Anwar Ibrahim was found not guilty but it was too late. His two successors were corrupted and they did not fulfill his vision. The worst is the 6th PM who is a kleptocrat and a thief. He refused to give way. Tun Dr Mahathir had no other alternative but to join the opposition to topple him. He did it and now his vision will be delayed until 2025 or 2030. Hopefully his old enemies : Anwar Ibrahim (on the right) and Lim Kit Siang (on the left) will help him to fulfill his vision. His new finance minister is Lim Guan Eng, the most capable chief Minister of Penang the country had so far. This new team of administers will bring about progress and transform the country into a developed one soon.
Here are the pictures of the next Pm Anwar Ibrahim and new Finance Minister Mr Lim Guan Eng, a chartered accountant and a lawyer.
3, Attitude
The attitude of following what you believe is most important ingredient for success in life. This attribute is most prominent in Tun Dr Mahathir's life. During the campaign period that lasted for almost a month, the attitude of Tun Dr Mahathir and some of the opposition leaders is most dominating. What is the attitude?
But those who have had the privilege of working with Mahathir before ought to know why he is a force unto his own: he is superbly systematic and his attitude is always positive How?
He is able to smile when you bring him a problem and he has an uncanny way of getting you to suggest a solution before he gives you one. His attitude is fantastic and when he chairs a meeting, he gives everyone an opportunity to air your views. Such an attitude only belongs to a great statesman.
- The ability to admit his mistakes.
He was out of politics for 15 years and he was able to admit his mistakes he made years ago like controlling the judiciary, the administrations of the government and not allowing someone to challenge him as boss of his party. He admitted his mistakes and he is back at the age of 93 to undo all the mistakes he had made and he keeps his promises.
The first thing he became PM is to ask the King to pardon his former deputy PM and promises to hand over the administration of the country to him in just 2 or 3 years onec he corrected all his mistakes.
Such a gesture only belongs to few great statesman.
