athena, Greece (Reuters) - Seventeen people in Greece died during the winter season of seasonal influenza viruses, while the measles outbreak expanded to nearly 2,000 reported cases, the Center for Disease Monitoring and Prevention of Greece (KEELPNO) said.
eleven people have lost their lives in the past month, according to the latest data. None of the 17 victims had been vaccinated, although 15 of them were from a group of residents at high risk of complications, Ta Nea said on Friday (9/3).
according to KEELPNO experts, all victims were between 30 and 86 years old.
Only 10 percent of the 71 confirmed influenza cases that have been hospitalized from November to early March have been injected, they said, as reported by Xinhua, which was monitored by Antara in Jakarta on Saturday.
in the previous flu season from December 2016 to June 2017, 108 people died from flu complications in Greece, according to official data.
KeelPNO experts urged the Greek people, especially patients suffering from chronic health disorders, to get flu vaccines and measles.
KEELPNO has recorded 1,976 cases of measles from May 1, 2017 to March 4, 2018, a press release said.
Most cases (1263), as well as two deaths so far, relate to the children of Roman Greece. many cases also relate to Greeks aged 25 to 44, who are not adequately vaccinated against measles, KEELPNO scientists say.
Nine out of 10 cases have not been vaccinated or vaccinated but are inadequate. Six and 10 patients reportedly need to be hospitalized.
