Sure you can go straight from a camera to youtube, but have you considered taking it to the next level with green screen backdrops, graphics packages and even multiple cameras?
While Telestream Wirecast starts at $495, OBS does mostly the same functions, is open source, and free. It is very popular in both in the live streaming and live gaming community.
BIGGEST PRO: Works with every video streaming service I've come across.
CON: Requires a decent computer with dedicated graphics card to run well.

Hi @zeronumbers! My comments are above are meant toward OBS in all it's current forms. I've used OBS on all three platforms intermittently for the past 4+ years. Regarding the release version I am using, I am one behind the current release (though that will be changing soon). I tend towards the classic interface simply out of habit.
