Living in Contradiction to Our Values
A moral vegan sees the obviousness of the wrong, immorality and evil that the human species has perpetuated against other animal species for so long. Carnism is the ingrained belief and ideology that we need to eat animal flesh or animal products to survive. We're conditioned and programmed to believe that it is natural, necessary and normal to do so.
Carnism is not recognized by most people, it's hidden from our perception because we have been conditioned to live this way for survival in the past. Things have changed now with technology where we can transport food around the world and live in optimal health. All we need is vitamin B12 in supplements, but using other supplements have benefits too as our food is often lacking in nutrients due to poor soil.
The immorality of what we do remains ignored by most of the planet, despite our direct involvement in such actions. We deplore hurting dogs and cats or eating them, but accept the harm towards non-household animals like pigs, cows and chickens and we do accept eating them. We don't treat all animals with the same level of moral concern.
If only more people can recognize morality and apply coherent moral concern across the board. Moral vegans are more integrated with morality and have a non-contradictory moral application towards all animals.
What will it take for the rest of the world to see what we see? It is visible that dead body parts, cadavers, corpses and carcasses are ending up on tables, cooked for people to eat. Body parts dangle in butcher shops and are in sealed packages and grocery stores. Yet until we see it for what it is, we just don't see something so obvious and we choose to be oblivious to it.
Pieces of dead bodies are being purchased all the time, yet making a connection with that dead body part to the reality of what's going on is hard to do. The reality of the meat immorality issue that's right in front of them isn't being seen.
Getting people to face the contradiction of their behavior is required for them to acknowledge the errors of their ways. Getting them to see how they are in disharmony with the values they want to uphold is required.
People want to believe themselves as good and moral. People want to be good and moral. If knowledge is provided to educate people and raise their awareness of what they are doing, then they can be in a position to understand the problem, and possibly change their behavior. If they want to live in alignment with the values of morality, doing no harm, nonviolence, etc., then they will have to change their behavior once it's been demonstrated to them that it is wrong and fails to live up to the values they claim to want to uphold.
It's not everyone that will be willing to listen. It's not everyone that will be willing to change. But the more people that listen, the more they can reflect on the information and potentially change themselves to stop engaging in this behavior. As more people learn and change their behavior, more people will care and more people will speak out and more people will learn and change their behavior, and on and on it goes.
A vegan world is possible. Veganism is the future. But it doesn't happen on its own. We were all influenced by others who put out information in order for us to learn from the errors of our ways. The more that the information gets out to more people, the more potential there is to change the world towards being a vegan planet in terms of human behavior.
Everything you say is true. Have to say trying to confront people with their - in lack of a better word - ignorance, didn't went well for me as by now. Mostly they shut theirself in in disbelief.
Many don't want to hear / listen, when something they do is hurting the world. They want to ignore and live with closed eyes. I think the problem is that we are spoiled with everything around us - not only food but also clothing, technical devices etc. We don't want to see that producing them and selling them to these prices as we are used to is hurting others.
Thank you for this post. #compassion #govegan
Ascension/evolution will cause people's bodies to begin rejecting animal flesh. Some people have already begun to exhibit illness when consuming animal flesh due to dna transformation. The days of animal consumption are running out (yay).
Couldn't have said it better. Resteemed
