Ethics Over Exploitation: Veganism Making Gains in 2018! My Comments On The New 'Vegan 2018' Documentary.

in #vegam6 years ago (edited)

The annual 'state of veganism' review documentary came out recently and I've included some scenes and comments here. This video is almost as long as the original Vegan 2018 video - but I have added a lot of my own comments and insights into veganism - created and acquired over 12 years of being vegan.

vegan 2018 comment

  • How to really stop the 'plants have feelings too' and 'but you kill plants' 'debates'.
  • Absurd mainstream media pundit comments destroyed..
  • Corporations choosing to bow to pressure to stop exploiting animals..
  • Coverage of activists at slaughterhouses exposing reality for the public.
  • Ever new meat replacement products and a plant to have supermarkets have a protein section instead of a meat section!

There's a lot going on here - don't miss it!

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below and don't miss the full documentary below...

There is such a big market here in Australia for vegan products. There has never been an easier time to eat meat free. In every supermarket there is a section that sells tofu, Tempe, and other vegetarian and vegan protein products. There are many health food store that stock vegan cheese and other vegan so-called dairy products. Many of the menus in cafes and restaurants have vegan options and often have a big V next to the menu items that are vegan , including a lot of hotels. Of course it is more difficult in rural areas but not impossible. The only deciding Factor for some maybe the price. Most meat eaters I know but happy to eat vegan food. There is a lot of positive action against animal cruelty. There is never been a better time in history to choose an ethical diet as there is so much education and choice out there.

Even hungry jacks have a vegan option now. They were one of the first if not the first brand to push mainstream advertising. A step in the right direction for sure.

@ura-soul thank you for this. I always enjoy listning to your calm voice when discussing the topics that are literally destroying the planet and all life on it. I want to have a chat with you. Give me a shout on discord or via the vegans server. Thanks for this.

You are welcome! I'll shout you later - sure :)

If it is wrong to eat life in the form of bacon, what makes it right to eat life in the form of a plant?

I covered this in the video response in the OP in some detail. You can't eat animal flesh without harming/killing the animal. You can eat food from food baring plants without killing anything and in fact, biology 101 shows that when you eat food from food baring plants and poop as nature intended, you create more life, not less. Part of the issue that clouds this is that vegans don't differentiate between plants that bare food and the other plants which die when you eat them. This is further clouded by some parts of the world having harsh winters that kill most plants anyway.

The general answer you will hear from vegans on this though is different. Generally, people point to the reality that plants do not have a central nervous system and the capacity to understand pain. I will add on that all life forms are willed. If your will is to be eaten then in theory you are getting what you want or even need by being eaten. Animals do not have such will to be eaten and express that when presented with the reality that they are about to be tortuously killed.
Plants do not exhibit this behavior and there is no proof that they are this way as far as I am aware.

In summary: if plants have a strong will to live, we need to know but don't generally know. we can eat food from bood baring plants without harming them. animals clearly suffer a lot when we exploit them and kill them.

balance requires that nothing is being overpowered.

Im with you on the killing of animals being horrible, especially on an industrial scale, my brother drove a truck with 80,000 lbs of liquid blood between processing plants.
Him and two others, 7 days a week.

That 'capacity to feel pain' sounds like rationalizing, to me.
Who is to say what a tree knows?

You ready to witness on a fork that drops the ninjamine from the numbers?

I am open to the possibility of all plants being sentient in their own way - in fact, i think that is true. We need to do the best we can.

Which fork are you referring to? I don't keep up much with forks - I only really know of whaleshares, vice and that asian one that i forgot the name of ;)

Golos.io was the first, but im trying to drum up interest in a new one.
There has to be 30 of the top 100 witnesses willing to band together to make steem a success rather than be complicit in neds desire to drive us off a cliff.

oh yes, golos and the other is weku.
from my perspective, the most relevant questions relating to a fork need to be addressed in a plan and are: a) who pays for it all? b) who are the team that will run it and code it? and c) what differentiates it from existing forks?

Does weku run a full fork, or are they just a mirror with no witnesses?

as far as i am aware, they are a full fork that just has one witness - but i don't really pay much attention there.

Great to see your video and the bigger video you promoted. I have been a vegetarian for 30 years and now moving to veganism, for the animals as a Hindu myself. There in India you have a culture that has been around for centuries and has never eaten meat in general. So life is sacred there.
I visited three times, to study Vedanta, and appreciate y our work @ura-soul.

I have just voted for you. Can you perhaps suggest any other people that are worth voting for. I don't know many people at all on Steemit yet.
