Menurut data dari Ensiklopedi Katolik, nama Valentinus diduga bisa merujuk pada tiga martir atau santo (orang suci) yang berbeda.

Hubungan antara ketiga martir ini dengan hari raya kasih sayang (valentine) tidak jelas. Bahkan Paus Gelasius I, pada tahun 496, menyatakan bahwa sebenarnya tidak ada yang diketahui mengenai martir-martir ini namun hari 14 Februari ditetapkan sebagai hari raya peringatan santo Valentinus. Ada yang mengatakan bahwa Paus Gelasius I sengaja menetapkan hal ini untuk mengungguli hari raya Lupercalia yang dirayakan pada tanggal 15 Februari.

Santo atau Orang Suci yang di maksud yaitu :

Pastur di Roma
Uskup Interamna (modern Terni)
Martir di provinsi Romawi Afrika.
Sisa-sisa kerangka yang digali dari makam Santo Hyppolytus, diidentifikasikan sebagai jenazah St. Valentinus. Kemudian ditaruh dalam sebuah peti dari emas dan dikirim ke gereja Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church di Dublin, Irlandia. Jenazah ini telah diberikan kepada mereka oleh Paus Gregorius XVI pada tahun 1836. Banyak wisatawan sekarang yang berziarah ke gereja ini pada hari Valentine (14 Februari), di mana peti dari emas diarak dalam sebuah prosesi dan dibawa ke sebuah altar tinggi. Pada hari itu dilakukan sebuah misa yang khusus diadakan dan dipersembahkan kepada para muda-mudi dan mereka yang sedang menjalin hubungan cinta.

Hari raya Valentine Days ini dihapus dari kalender gerejawi pada tahun 1969 sebagai bagian dari sebuah usaha yang lebih luas untuk menghapus santo-santo yang asal-muasalnya tidak jelas, meragukan dan hanya berbasis pada legenda saja. Namun pesta ini masih dirayakan pada paroki-paroki tertentu.

Hukum Merayakan Valentine Dalam Islam

Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam telah melarang untuk mengikuti tata cara peribadatan selain Islam, artinya, ” Barangsiapa meniru suatu kaum, maka ia termasuk dari kaum tersebut ” (HR. At-Tirmidzi) .

Ibnu Qayyim al-Jauziyah berkata, ” Memberikan ucapan selamat terhadap acara ritual orang kafir yang khusus bagi mereka, telah disepakati bahwa perbuatan tersebut HARAM “.

Mengapa ? karena berarti ia telah memberi selamat atas perbuatan mereka yang menyekutukan Allah subhanahu wata’ala. Bahkan perbuatan tersebut lebih besar dosanya di sisi Allah subhanahu wata’ala dan lebih dimurkai dari pada memberi selamat atas perbuatan minum khamar atau membunuh.

Syaikh Muhammad al-Utsaimin ketika ditanya tentang Valentine’s Day mengatakan, ” Merayakan Hari Valentine itu tidak boleh ”, karena alasan berikut :

Pertama : Ia merupakan hari raya bid’ah yang tidak ada dasar hukumnya di dalam syari’at Islam.

Kedua : Ia dapat menyebabkan hati sibuk dengan perkara-perkara rendahan seperti ini yang sangat bertentangan dengan petunjuk para salaf shalih (pendahulu kita) -semoga Allah meridhai mereka-.

Contoh kasus : ada seorang gadis mengatakan bahwa ia tidak mengikuti keyakinan mereka, hanya saja hari Valentine tersebut secara khusus memberikan makna cinta dan suka citanya kepada orang-orang yang memperingatinya.

Saudaraku!! Ini adalah suatu kelalaian, mengadakan pesta pada hari tersebut bukanlah sesuatu yang sepele, tapi lebih mencerminkan pengadopsian nilai-nilai Barat yang tidak memandang batasan normatif dalam pergaulan antara pria dan wanita sehingga saat ini kita lihat struktur sosial mereka menjadi porak-poranda. Hendaknya setiap muslim merasa bangga dengan agamanya, tidak menjadi orang yang tidak mempunyai pegangan dan ikut-ikutan. Semoga Allah subhanahu wata’ala melindungi kaum muslimin dari segala fitnah (ujian hidup), yang tampak ataupun yang tersembunyi dan semoga meliputi kita semua dengan bimbingan-Nya.

Di dalam ayat lainnya, artinya, ” Kamu tidak akan mendapati sesuatu kaum yang beriman kepada Allah dan hari Akhirat, saling berkasih sayang dengan orang-orang yang menentang Allah dan Rasul-Nya.” (Al-Mujadilah: 22).

Jadi, kesimpulan dari hukum Perayaan Valentine adalah sebagai berikut :

Seorang muslim dilarang untuk meniru-niru kebiasan orang-orang di luar Islam, apalagi jika yang ditiru adalah sesuatu yang berkaitan dengan keyakinan, pemikiran dan adat kebiasaan mereka.

Bahwa mengucapkan selamat terhadap acara kekufuran adalah lebih besar dosanya dari pada mengucapkan selamat kepada kemaksiatan seperti meminum minuman keras dan sebagainya.

Haram hukumnya umat Islam ikut merayakan Hari Raya orang-orang di luar Islam.

Valentine’s Day adalah Hari Raya di luar Islam untuk memperingati pendeta St. Valentin yang dihukum mati karena menentang Kaisar yang melarang pernikahan di kalangan pemuda. Oleh karena itu tidak boleh ummat Islam memperingati hari Valentine’s tersebut.

First: it is the feast of the heresy that there is no basis in Islamic Shari'ah law.

Second: it can cause liver is busy with the lowly things like this which is very contrary to the instructions of the salaf Salih (us)-may God pleased with them.

Example case: there was a girl says that she did not follow their beliefs, only those specifically Valentine's day giving the meaning of love and like the mind to the people who will be commemorated.

My brother!! It is an omission, had a party on that day is not something trivial, but better reflect the adoption of Western values regardless of the normative restriction in the association between men and women so that this time we see their social structure is being ravaged. Every muslim should feel proud of their religion, not to be a person who had no grip and me-too. A muslim is forbidden to imitate the customs of the people outside Islam, especially if being is something relating to beliefs, thoughts and their customs.

That happy event against infidelity is a greater sin than to congratulate Sin like drinking liquor and so on.

Unlawful Muslims join celebrate the feast of the people outside Islam.

Valentine's Day is the feast outside Islam to commemorate St. Valentin clergyman who was sentenced to death for defying the Emperor prohibiting marriage among the youth. Therefore it should not be Muslims commemorate the Valentine's day.
