RE: Utopian: 2000 CONTRIBUTIONS - Now Going To Kickstarter! What Do You Think?
I'm not a developer myself, so I'm not sure of the best approach to take in a KickStarter campaign, but here's a few ideas anyway!
- Seek out some partner sponsorships in the developer software/training/equipment fields to donate their products, or at least sell them to you at cost for fulfillment of backer rewards. They get some sponsor branding and exposure to the Utopian community which is their target market.
- Offer incentives to the backers account on the Utopian site. These can be purely cosmetic - such as a custom badging and reputation system, titles, etc... or functional such as access to private forums, discord servers, etc.
- Offer a limited number of high tier rewards wherein the backer gets the ability to designate an open source project of their choosing for a Utopian "hackathon." This would be a promotional event of perhaps 2-4 weeks duration where Utopian puts an official spotlight on that project, offering it elevated exposure and rewards voting during that timeframe. Some folks might pay quite a bit to have a shot of energy infused into the development of their own project or a favorite open source project they use regularly.
