The Gap Between WHALES & MINNOWS - An Issue To Resolve by Steemit
There is no doubt that no other site can be compared to steemit but at the same, steemit need a lot of changes.
Before I address the issue of the gap between whales and minnows, let me mention other issues I think steemit should work on
1)A tag browse/search field just below the Tags Title and above the tag lists
I find it very difficult to search for tag of my choice. Most of the tags listed on the steemit page may not interest me and I may want to search for a special tag that is not popular but difficult to find. I think steemit create ways to search for other tags other than the popular ones already imbedded on the platform
2)Achievements/Awards Featured On user Profile
It is a good thing to see that steemitboard award badges for achievements. But i am also not happy that these badges are not featured on our profile. It should be featured to gain more commitment to the platform.
3)Separate area for Witness /or other Authority’s posts
I find it difficult to get update of some special writers posts if i am not online for 2days.
Steemit should try to create room to favourite special writers we think are great so that we can be able to view their posts easily when we are offline for long instead of having to visit their pages individually.
4)Creating a way to chat with followers or those following you on this platform
I would love steemit to create a means to chat with users on this platform in real time instead of going over to discord to find users to chat with. If steemit can create a way to private chat users on this platform, it would help create stronger relationship and communication among users. This should be done because they are things we may want to say to one another privately and the "comment" and " reply" section won't be the best option for that. The live chat would also enable us know active followers.
5)Ability to create group and pages like facebook
Steemit should create the ability for users to create groups and pages. These groups would bring together people with similar interests and contents. For example users who love to draw can be on one group and share ideas by communicating with one another. Users who love to post on inspirational posts like myself can be on one group and get to know one another better.
If you join steemit without putting in money or know one of the whales, you will find it really difficult to grow.
Now to the main topic of today which is The gap between whales and minnows
I have been on steemit since February and I must tell you that it has been frustrating.
It feels really frustrating to post good contents after spending time without any reward yet we have people who just post pictures and get over $600.
Steemit need to close the gap between whales and minnows.
Sometimes these whales instead of upvoting us, they will downvote we minnows just because we made little complain.
I must tell you that it isn't easy with minnows like me and I would love steemit to work and do something about that. Let quality posts and effort gain their appropriate rewards.
This topic was inspired after reading one of @whatageek post below:
Steemit Is Worlds Ahead Of Every Other Site And Yes Changes Need To Be Made

There are posts from people that are not happy with the state of steemit and where it is going. There is a lot of blame on the bots but getting rid of them will not solve everything. The problem is still visibility and spreading of rewards. These are being addressed when communities come out but I do think we need to further spread out the voting power to make it easier for new accounts and content creators.
That being said, even at its current state, it is still worlds ahead of every site out there. I am not exaggerating. I am telling you as a professionally published author who spends a lot of time looking and trying out new sites nothing comes close to steemit. No other sites rewards users on a daily basis and models like advertising and subscriptions are great only if you get a large following. And both of those can be applied here. Literally steemit is the only site right now that is a viable option and will only get better.
Now we should not get lazy. We really need to make changes and I get the frustration about the site. But this frustration comes from knowing how great this site can be not because the site isn't any good. I do hope there are changes soon and I am asking @ned to take it into mind where the site is heading. I know they are working hard on communities and that should help a lot but more voting changes can also increase the site for new users.
That's my two cents on the topic.
Yes! We have some wonderful people who have taken it upon themselves to assist and help we minnows, and it won't be nice if I don't recommend their effort
@surpassinggoogle @whatageek @bleepcoin
@wafrica @hr1 @minnowsupport @eturnerx @sniffnscurry @o07 @o07life @we-are-nigeria @we-are-africa @we-are-one @reachout @steemchurch @booster @mattclarke @originalworks @mediaworks @accelerator @prettyjules158 @adoore-eu @crypto.piotr @curie @artzone @dimimp
And many more I do not know about.
Please tag them on the comment below and thank them. Let them know that their effort and willingness to help we minnows is appreciated.
My heartfelt advice to the minnows out there reading this post is that you should never give up on steemit. Although it may look frustrating and tiring but you shall smile someday.
The fact that I have been able to meet people all over the world through steemit is somthing I am happy about.
May this platform continue to grow for the better.
The problem is any tweak to how voting power works and its distribute can cause a lot of disruption in steem , dont forget whales run the show and put the money that makes this run.
I think the solution is more in the lines of improving the way the site showcases posts ,more than in the money incentives.
