Introduction

Creating awareness to open source projects are important, in order to get the quality applications to individuals who are in need of the free features being offered compared to the paid versions.
The need to make these projects known prompted me to conduct this promotional campaign of SIGNAL opensource chat app online using my social account on facebook.
Signal has improved modern chat app with secured end-end encryption.
Using Signal, users can communicate instantly while avoiding SMS fees, create groups so users can chat in real time with all their friends at once, and share media or attachments all with complete privacy. The server never has access to any of your communication and never stores any of your data.
Signal offers the following unique features to it’s users:

1. Privacy - Signal uses an advanced end to end encryption protocol that provides privacy for every message, sent by users at every time. Simple means users can say anything.
2. Open Source - Signal is Free and Open Source, enabling anyone to verify its security by auditing the code. Signal is the only private messenger that uses open source peer-reviewed cryptographic protocols to keep your messages safe.
3. Simplicity - Signal uses your existing phone number and address book. There are no separate logins, usernames, passwords, or PINs to manage or lose.
4. Group Chat - Signal allows you to create encrypted groups so you can have private conversations with all your friends at once. Not only are the messages encrypted, but the Signal server never has access to any group metadata such as the membership list, group title, or group icon.
5. Speed - The Signal protocol is designed to operate in the most constrained environment possible. Using Signal, messages are instantly delivered to friends.
6. Voice and Video Calls - Make crystal-clear phone and Video calls to people who live across town, or across the ocean, with no long-distance charges.
7. Sychronize – Users are able to use their account across all their device with simple sync settings. Available on Android, IOS, PC.

Audience

I took into consideration some factors in creating my audience for the promotion of this project.

• minimum age that is acceptable globally.
• location that is likely to have a relevant number of people interested in Signal.
• gender
• Interest, people who have interest in devices used in accessing the app.

With these parameters in mind, I decided my target audience would be;

• AGE: 18-65+ years ( 18 years is considered to be the minimum age for adulthood in Nigeria)
• LOCATION: Nigeria. Being the giant of Africa and the most populous country in Africa, which is likely to contain a huge amount of interested persons.
• GENDER: Women were not excluded from this promotion, as the project is for all gender. Men and Women were my target audience
• INTERESTS: The promotion was narrowed to people who had interest in Android ,IOS and PC which are devices in which users can access the app.

Activity

I carried out a campaign on my social account facebook preferably.
The campaign was put forward with a concise post about the project, with a link to the official landing page of the project which users can get more information on their device.
After putting the post up, I utilized my ads account to boost the campaign with specific parameters to meet my target audience stated above. The boost was optimized for link clicks aslo following guidelines laid down by Utopian.
