My favorite food is pounded yam with egusi soup, it is best taken in the evening because it makes someone feeling sleepy. I am partial to pounded yam. It is my all time favourite meal, eating it just puts me in a good mood. For me, the soup does not matter, just the pounded yam. Pounded yam is a staple dish well known to Nigerians. It is normally eaten with soups such as okro, egusi, vegetable, or nsala, etc, as your choice since we have varieties of soup.
Pounded yam is prepared by mashing (or pounding) boiled yams into a smooth paste. A well prepared pounded yam is smooth, sticky, and doesn’t contain any lump. enabling a very smooth paste, while others just stick to only yam. How do you prepare yours?
Back in the day, people use wooden mortars and pestle to prepare this delicacy. These days, like with everything else, technology is changing the way we prepare pounded yam. there are food processors that are designed to aid the preparation of this meal. I still prefer the old school method of ‘pounding’ the yam into a smooth paste and enjoying it (sometimes straight from the mortar) with white soup, you will surely love to have a taste of my pounded yam with egusi soup.
