Beginning with a word of welcome, the Executive Director of The Greens, Ngalim Franklin commended the efforts of Joice, Timothy and Amratu who are pioneers of The Greens’ Computer Institute and had been studying computer science at the institute for over 4 months. He encouraged them to continue to learn, discover and share the knowledge they acquire in a bid to curb the digital divide in their community.
Joice started the trainings with a presentation on Distance Learning during which she defined distance learning, presented examples of distance learning tools, types of distance learning as well as drilled the participants on the advantages and challenges of distance learning. She closed her 45 minutes training with a question and answer session during which participants asked questions as well as made contributions to encourage more young people to study online.
Next was Amratu who did a presentation on Alison, a distance learning platform that has more than 1000 courses for people to learn for free. In her presentation, Amratu highlighted the different steps involved in registering and studying with Alison as well effectively presented Alison to the participants.
Joice and Amratu presented on Thursday meanwhile on Friday 16th August 2018, Timothy started the day with a presentation on OERs and Ngalim Franklin (Mr. Green) closed the 02 days training with a training on How to search the web and Steemit.
At the end of the presentations, participants of the training were in awe and immediately started registering their accounts on Alison as well as pledged to study using the different distance learning websites and OERs that were given to them by Amratu, Timothy and Joice.
